Role Responsibilities:
Provide executive support to the Vice President and General Counsel and the Associate General Counsel on matters relating to the chief obligations and mandates of the Office of Legal Counsel.&nbsp;Such duties include:&nbsp;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Some professional court reporting experience is desirable.
Education: Requires equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations; ability to sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to listen attentively to court proceedings for prolonged periods of time; ability to concentrate on court proceedings amid extraneous distractions. Must provide and maintain own reporting and transcription equipment.
 
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: 
Must possess a valid California Certified Shorthand Reporter License with identification number or Certified Court Reporter. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid drivers license or must be able to provide self-arranged transportation.
BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS:
The final candidate will be required to submit to Live Scan Fingerprinting as a condition of employment should an offer be made. In addition, the final candidate will be required to submit verification of identity, citizenship or legal right to work in the United States.
 
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
Benefits of employment with the Superior Court, County of Madera include 13 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year, 1 sick leave day per month (unlimited accrual); Appointed to a permanent position shall be granted 5 days credit for vacation following the completion of 6 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service and following the completion of 12 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service in a permanent position will be credited 5 additional vacation days, vacation accrual increasing thereafter with years of service (50 days max accrual); Membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) pursuant to the provisions of Californias 2013 Pension Reform Act (Act) and CalPERS Regulations. For those individuals with current or prior CalPERS membership status or defined as a classic member, will be eligible for an enhanced 2.7% @ 55 retirement formula; employee contributes 8%. Individuals with no current or prior CalPERS membership status and who are defined as new members or new employees under the Act, will be eligible for the 2% @ 62 retirement benefit formula; employee contributes 7.75%. Superior Court participates in the CalPERS Health Benefit Program, and for certain selected health plans, the Superior Court pays 100% of the health insurance premium for employee and 50% for either two-party or family coverage.
EXAMINATION PROCESS: 
A qualifications appraisal for the purpose of appraising the candidates education, experience, and personal qualifications will be scheduled for those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, and may be administered either by a written examination, oral interview, evaluation of education and experience, or any combination of qualifications appraisal determined by the Superior Court Human Resources Division to be appropriate. The Human Resources Division may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. The Superior Court Human Resources Division will make reasonable accommodations in the examination process for disabled applicants. The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda is accepting applications for the position of Court Reporter. Under direction, Court Reporter stenotypes a verbatim record of court proceedings; reads notes as requested; prepare transcripts; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Possession of a Certified Shorthand Reporter’s license number is required upon hire. However, if a license number has not been issued by the time of application, please provide a verification letter from the State of California, Department of Consumers Affairs Certified Shorthand Reporters Board which states your successful completion of all three parts of the Court Reporters Board of California Certified Shorthand Reporters Examination. 
 A Court Reporter is a full-time, non-management position, with benefits. Employees are paid an hourly rate within the prescribed salary range noted above.
Possession of a current license in good standing issued by the State of California, Department of Consumers Affairs Certified Shorthand Reporters Board is required.
 National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) certification or other real time reporting certifications are highly desired.
Vacancies will be filled at various court locations throughout Alameda County.
Employees appointed to a position of Court Reporter must be willing to travel and work throughout any of the court locations within the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda.
Hiring Bonus:
A bonus of $30,000 will be offered to all new, full-time official court reporters, to be paid out as follows:

Finder's Fee:
Any court employee who refers a court reporter candidate to the Court for employment is eligible for a $10,000 finder’s fee, paid in two installments. The first $5,000 finder’s fee installment will be paid the first full pay period after the court reporter’s start date. The second $5,000 finder’s fee installment will be paid after the court reporter passes their probationary period. The referring employee must be actively employed by the Court at the time of each finder’s fee installment to receive payment for that installment.
To be eligible for the finder’s fee, the candidate applying for the court reporter position must include the name of the employee who referred them at the time they submit their application to the Court.
Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA):
Effective January 1, 2023, Court Reporters shall receive a 3% COLA.
Subject to appropriation, effective August 1, 2023, Court Reporters shall receive a 5% COLA.
Example of DutiesNOTE: The following are duties performed by employees in this classification; however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all listed duties. 1. Operates a stenotype machine or voice writing equipment and computer to report all court proceedings and prepare accurate and complete official written record. Knowledge of basic legal, medical and other terminology required for court proceedings; courtroom procedures and protocol; English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling; transcript production procedures and practices; and personal CAT system. Ability to write shorthand at a minimum of 200 words per minute with 97.5% accuracy; work independently; plan and organize work to meet statutory and non-statutory deadlines; prepare and deliver Court mandated and/or appeal transcripts and extensions within statutory timeframes, formatted in conformance with statutory requirements; establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, staff, attorneys and the public. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must own and maintain appropriate equipment for transcription of court proceedings.

The probationary period for this position shall be based on the achievement of a total of 1950 hours. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of fingerprint check and the provision of appropriately identifying documents to certify eligibility to work in the United States.
