We are hiring for the DESC Lead for Innovation in Psychiatric Care, a new role for a psychiatrist who is excited about working with a wonderful multidisciplinary behavioral health team, pushing the boundaries of what high-quality care for vulnerable populations can be, and engaging in continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate is someone who, in partnership with other medical and clinical leaders at DESC, will help us to explore how to implement under-used evidence-based practices in a manner that drives positive, measurable behavioral health outcomes. Enjoying the iterative process that comes with such a goal is a must.
 This position will have 0.8 FTE clinical time (some with an opioid use disorder-focused team, and the rest with a longitudinal comprehensive outpatient behavioral health team) and 0.2 FTE of administrative time. This role will partner closely with the DESC Agency Medical Director, the Senior Medical Leads for the Opioid Recovery and Care Access (ORCA) Center and Crisis Solutions Center (CSC), Director of Nursing, Medical Department Senior Operations Manager, and other senior leaders within the medical and clinical departments. As currently envisioned, this role will not have any supervisory responsibilities.
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
<ul>
<li>Coordinate client care within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.</li>
<li>Perform psychiatric evaluations, establish treatment plans collaboratively with clients, prescribe and monitor medications as indicated; this is inclusive of opioid use disorder treatment; all in context of a multidisciplinary team.</li>
<li>At times, provide care via field-based outreach to clients in shelters, permanent supportive housing buildings or other locations, as indicated.</li>
<li>Participate in program meetings and in-service trainings; participate in clinical reviews and case conferences for clients as indicated.</li>
<li>Take initiative to meet the changing needs of community behavioral health treatment.</li>
<li>Participate in verbal de-escalation in emergent situations and be able and willing to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe, secure environment.</li>

Non-Clinical Duties:
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with senior medical and clinical leaders at DESC in designing systems-changes, trainings or workflows to allow for a greater use of underused and emerging psychiatric interventions. Such interventions include, but are not limited to, clozapine, xanomeline + trospium, TMS referrals, GLP-1RAs, contingency management. For some initiatives, the Lead Psychiatrist will be the primary driver of change management.</li>

<li>Engage with data and informatics team on building ways to measure and track meaningful metrics of care related to existing services and new innovations or care delivery changes.</li>

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

General Summary
Independently work with internal and external customers to understand and analyze requirements and develop reporting solutions using underlying technologies and will lead, and provide technical expertise in the design, development, testing, documentation and maintenance of reporting solutions for the University of Maryland Medical System. Use third party report writing tools to create, design, develop, and maintain reports/extracts generated from the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) from initial request through delivery. This will include preliminary conversations with end users for requirements gathering, data extractions from relevant databases, testing and validation, documentation, presentation.  What You Will Do This position is responsible for supporting Pharmacy's Information and Automation Technology Program with an emphasis on managing Pyxis Systems. Pyxis Systems responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being a site expert on Pyxis System setup and daily operational integrity, respectively. The Pharmacy Technician Informatics Coordinator will serve as a facilitator and contributor to Pharmacy's Information and Automation Technology Program by fulfilling technology support duties for current and future technologies.  Essential Functions
<ul>
<li>Customer service Answers phone in accordance with Sharp Healthcare principles and behavioral standards. Fosters positive relationships through consistent, respectful, professional interactions with customers. Responds to requests in timely, caring manner that is consistent with Sharp behavior standards (i.e. attitude).</li>
<li>Database monitoring Monitor refill, stock out, loading, unloading, ordered meds not loaded to maximize efficiency to avoid stock-outs. To monitor the accuracy of charges and credits to verify the completion of the billing cycle. Utilize Pyxis console, C-II Safe, and Pyxis Consultant reports to identify potential usage irregularities, forward necessary information to pharmacy and nursing management for their assessment and assist with further review as warranted. Ensures that all pertinent reports are filed for future reference, if needed, and archives data to disk, for future reference.</li>
<li>Documentation Insures application documentation is current, accurate and available. Application documentation includes, but is not limited to workflows, data diagrams, design plans, project management logs, disaster recovery plans, and reference documents. Develops test plans, training material, and guidelines. Assists with developing or updating policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Internal communications Clearly communicates goals and instructions to other staff members, including handoffs between shifts (written/oral). Participates in staff orientation and resident/student training programs. Effectively identifies and troubleshoots issues, as demonstrated by effective problem solving, prioritization of issues with respect to level of significance and impact to patient care, safety, workflow, cost and communication. Applies the appropriate Sharp HealthCare policies and procedures when faced with complex situations. Effectively evaluates existing workflow issues and directs daily workload to achieve optimum efficiency and maximize resource utilization as business needs require. Attends and participates in staff meetings or reviews staff meeting communications. Reads work related email at a minimum on assigned workdays.</li>
<li>Medication distribution services Review, recommend, and implement modifications to the daily routine as necessary to optimize the use of the system. Performs extensive monitoring of the system to measure its overall performance and use. Proactively communicates the status of Pyxis operational integrity to the pharmacy and nursing staffs. Assists with the selection of appropriate inventory for each MedStation. Performs periodic review of the inventory par levels and for expiration dates.</li>
<li>Medication safety and use Participates in surveillance initiatives such as: Pyxis override report monitoring, anesthesia controlled substance audits, medication safety event reporting etc. Proactively identifies potential medication safety improvement opportunities such as look alike, sound alike medication storage and packaging issues, delivery / storage / security related issues, inventory management issues etc. Proactively participates in the development of medication safety initiatives to prevent occurrence or reoccurrence of medication safety events. Demonstrates awareness of medication safety communications delivered by pharmacy management and safe medication practice pharmacist.</li>
<li>Monitor Pyxis activity Acts as the primary contact for the issuance of passwords to ongoing users and new users. Maintains accurate documentation of user access according to established policies and procedures. Provide oversight, monitors, reconciles and reports nursing med access override issues to pharmacists for their follow-up. Works with Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor (or equivalent) and Safe Medication Practice Pharmacist (or equivalent) to build and maintain clinical data category (speed bumps) and Pyxis alerts. Provides reports as needed. Assists with build and maintenance of 'trigger' reports.</li>
<li>Pyxis technology management Acts as the primary contact with Pyxis customer Support. Communicates with Pyxis representatives about any upcoming ADT / Interface Software changes, nursing unit moves, etc. that may affect the proper operation of the Pyxis system. Proactively seeks and responds to feedback from pharmacy and nursing staffs. Assists with the implementation of new units or services throughout the healthcare system.</li>
<li>Technology and automation management Participates in new technology evaluations and implementations. Optimizes hardware and software to support operational needs. Maintains quality assurance, system integrity, and customer satisfaction for assigned technology or automation. Ensures that all changes to applications and technologies are made using existing change management methodologies to protect system performance, availability and integrity. Collaborates with site and corporate pharmacy, IS team, and vendor to ensure all changes work in concert with the application software and associated technologies.</li>
<li>Reports and audits Performs application extracts to support organizational, department, or individual data needs. Complies, analyzes, and manipulates data to best provide information to the intended audience. Utilizes custom reports to address needs not provided through standard reporting tools.</li>
<li>Training development Assists with training and evaluating pharmacy techs and pharmacists on loading and refilling procedures, and how to provide support to nursing to resolve drawer failures and other issues. Keeps abreast of all current and developing technologies by attending Pyxis related educational opportunities Provides ongoing and systematic educational programs and opportunities for pharmacy, nursing, RCP, and physician staff. Actively participates in Pyxis Task Force.</li>
