JOB SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technician serves as an integral member of the health services team and will perform laboratory procedures, point of care testing, phlebotomy, and process specimens for sending to outside laboratories. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serves as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide a full range of laboratory services.
• Works in collaboration with Medical Providers and other Health Services staff to maintain an effective and efficient program.
• Facilitates patient access to laboratory services.
• Assures that blood draw stations, point of care platform areas, and specimen processing areas are always clean and properly stocked with appropriately functioning equipment and non-expired supplies.
• Performs laboratory tests as ordered by Medical Provider, and perform laboratory tests per standing order/protocol.
• Performs venous blood draws and finger-sticks per protocol.
• Collects throat specimens.
• Processes specimens for point of care testing and for send-out to outside laboratories.
• Performs CLIA-waived laboratory tests with proper quality controls; records and distributes results.
• Assists in completing necessary paperwork, including transcription of orders and lab requests.
• Maintains complete and accurate files documenting all care and laboratory services provided in the patient’s health record.
• Verifies test requests and tracks specimens that are sent to the various reference laboratories using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system or manual methods.
• Maintains files of patient lab requisitions, EMR Manifests, and other paperwork in chronological order.
• Receives, tracks, and distributes test results from the various reference laboratories.
• Monitors laboratory refrigerators and freezers, and maintains temperature logs; notifies supervisor of any out of range temperatures.
• Answers phones calls, takes messages, and follows-up.
• Communicates critical reports to the clinicians without delay.
• Interacts in a professional manner with health services staff and patients.
• Exercises appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.
• Uses standard office machinery including personal computers and printers in performance of duties.
• Assists in data auditing tasks.
• Participates in staff meetings, agency meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.
• Complies with requirements of OSHA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in direct patient care; preferably in an ambulatory care setting.
• Medical Assistant certification/diploma from approved training program required.
• Current AHA CPR certification.
• Basic knowledge of infectious diseases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, and interpersonal skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing, Electronic Health Records, and other software systems.
• Ability to be self-motivated and dedicated to initiating and completing complex tasks.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, be detail oriented, and maintain strict confidentiality of medical information.
• Able to work well independently with minimum supervision. 
• Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages in an inpatient hospital setting</li>
<li>Enter patient and specimen information into computer systems accurately</li>
<li>Process and package specimens for transport to reference laboratories</li>
<li>Assist the medical technologist in routine laboratory functions</li>
<li>Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state healthcare guidelines</li>
<li>Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment</li>
<li>Support the laboratory supervisor in meeting operational needs</li>
<li>Provide dependable, quality service to both patients and medical staff</li>
</ul>
Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent required</li>
<li>One year of full-time phlebotomy experience preferred, not required</li>
<li>Valid Texas driver’s license</li>
<li>Must comply with state immunization requirements</li>
<li>Ability to pass a drug screening and fingerprinting background check</li>
<li>Completion of facility and state-mandated training prior to start</li>
</ul>
Shift:
<ul>
<li>Typically Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM, with possible adjustments based on hospital needs</li>
<li>No nights, weekends, or holiday shifts required</li>
</ul>

What you'll need to be successful:

<li>Graduate of a Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy/Emergency Medical Technician program or other Medical skilled related program</li>
<li>New Grads welcome!</li>
<li>Understanding that our schedules are not typical office hours. Schedules are made 3 months in advance and run Monday-Friday and occasional Saturdays as needed. Meeting times and end times will vary based on the distance to the community destination for the day and the customer schedule.&nbsp; Flexibility to work within our schedule needs is key to success!</li>
<li>Compensation is paid for both travel time and base pay for on-site event, with unlimited bonus potential!</li>
<li>Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to educate participants on products and services</li>
<li>Passion to create and maintain a positive environment for fellow team member and customers throughout screening events</li>
<li>Must have a valid driver's license and clear&nbsp;MVR as driving responsibilities of company van are shared among the team</li>
</ul>
Major Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Ability to learn and perform the Front desk registration customer process, Ankle Brachial Index, Osteoporosis Risk Assessment, Atrial Fibrillation, and blood test screenings in accordance with the company's protocols and in a proficient and timely manner.&nbsp; </li>
<li>Strength in teamwork &amp; collaboration; sharing responsibilities driving the company van, loading, and unloading equipment (up to 50 lbs).</li>
<li>Eagerness to work in a fast-paced work environment where a passion for helping others, as well as accuracy performing tests, are held at the highest of standards.</li>
