Requirements:

Job Summary
Under the direction of a registered respiratory therapist and according to established policies and procedures, acts as a professional member of the health care team by providing respiratory therapy services throughout the continuum of care. In collaboration with the registered respiratory therapist, provides therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures and diagnostic tests for uncomplicated patients with, or at risk of, abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Collaborates with physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team to assist with developing optimal cardiopulmonary care plans for patients. Performs assessments for patients and evaluates the appropriateness and effectiveness of therapy. 
 Qualifications: 
1. Graduation from an AMA/CoARC approved Respiratory Care program. Associates degree in Science, Allied Health or equivalent, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
2. Certification (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). 
3. BCLS certification required. 
4. Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan.

Under the direction of the Medical Director and Director of Respiratory Care each therapist provides safe, proficient, and comprehensive delivery of Respiratory Care services to all ages of patients of Children`s Mercy Hospital. <li>Provides neonatal and pediatric airway management and mechanical ventilation.</li>
<li>Provides respiratory treatments, including bronchial hygiene, inflation therapy, inhaled medications.</li>
<li>Provides inhaled medical gas therapy, including oxygen, medical air, blended gases, nitric oxide, nitrogen, heliox, etc.</li>
<li>Provides education to patients, families, fellow respiratory therapists and the multidisciplinary team.</li>
<li>Acts as a preceptor assisting in the onboarding of new employees and acts as an advisor helping to foster the education and experience of student interns.</li>
<li>Applies and evaluates non-invasive and invasive monitoring such as pulse oximetry, end-tidal carbon dioxide, transcutaneous carbon dioxide, arterial blood gases, etc.</li>
<li>Participates in hospital emergency responses such as code blue, rapid response, trauma, emergency ambulatory response system, etc.</li>
