Moreover, the successful candidate will preferably take over the role of the CSUSB herbarium curator. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology or related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desired.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biology has 17 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide pivotal support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for 3D printing, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, and plant growth. The CSUSB herbarium hosts a small collection (about 4,000 specimens) of mostly local flora. In addition, the department has access to the College of Natural Science’s Electron Microscope and Image Analysis Center (EMIAC). JOB SUMMARY:
 
Under general supervision of the NETCOM Manager, the Records Technician, performs a variety of clerical functions requiring the application of independent judgment and interpretation of policies and regulations. Work involves a high level of responsibility of police clerical work with moderately complex work methods and problems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
<ol>
<li>Maintain police activity reports.</li>
<li>Maintain, with relative independence, an overall clerical process or office activity.</li>
<li>Maintain criminal history, offense and traffic records.</li>
<li>Receive, code, index, and file reports and related records.</li>
<li>Maintain statistical records and prepare reports.</li>
<li>Type and file forms, letters, memos, arrest and search warrants, witness statements and other related reports.</li>
<li>Perform computerized data entry of reports.</li>
<li>Responsible for cash box, and deposits.</li>
<li>Issue, review, and process Solicitor Permits</li>
<li>Performs fingerprinting functions for INS, concealed handguns, etc.</li>
<li>Arrive at work on time everyday, in good physical and mental condition.</li>
<li>Meet and assist persons entering the Police Department.</li>
<li>Answer incoming telephone lines except emergency and 911.</li>
<li>Complete assignments as directed.</li>

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
<ol>
<li>High school diploma or a GED equivalent.</li>
<li>Two years clerical experience that includes performing data entry accurately at a reasonable speed. </li>
</ol>
<ol>
<li>Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, (e.g. computer systems and software, copy machine, fax machine, telecommunication equipment).</li>
<li>Ability to analyze complex reports and organize and prepare regular and special reports.</li>
<li>Capacity to understand and carry out moderately complex verbal and written instructions and make minor decisions in accordance with established procedures.</li>
<li>Aptitude to make arithmetic computations accurately with reasonable speed.</li>
<li>Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.</li>
<li>Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and the community.</li>
<li>Ability to interpret Federal and State privacy and security guidelines.</li>
<li> Competency to handle confidential records concerning juveniles, arrests, and classified police reports.</li>
<li> Working knowledge of the Federal and State Open Records Act, Privacy Act, Uniform Crime Reporting System, National Incident Based Reporting System, and retention scheduling and maintenance.</li>
<li> Able to submit an application and pass an alphanumeric typing test at 20 words per minute with 85% accuracy and ability to operate a computer. Able to submit a personal history statement and pass a thorough background investigation. Able to pass a post offer medical and psychological examination.</li>

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 
Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Duties may require lifting boxes weighing up to 35 pounds, reading a computer screen, and typing for long periods of time. Hours are generally from 8:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; or 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; however, occasional overtime may be required.
