About the Position The Advancement Director is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic vision and management of SELT's vibrant and successful fundraising and donor engagement programs. Foundation and Membership Support: • In collaboration with the Outreach and Education Director, identify and pursue foundation funding opportunities; maintain select institutional donor relationships. • Oversee administration of SELT's membership program, including appeals, communications, and events to deepen member engagement. Ensure a seamless integration of membership efforts with overall fundraising strategy. • Plan and implement membership growth strategies to help SELT achieve a 50% increase in its donor base by 2030. Position Summary
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) currently consists of 16 attorneys working collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Columbia University.&nbsp; OGC is seeking an attorney with corporate and/or transactional experience to work on a range matters of including:&nbsp; business matters, contract review, litigation, labor and employment, copyright, property acquisitions, student and faculty issues, and tax, among others. Primary Function:
<ul>
<li>Under minimal supervision, oversees all phases of research grants and contract administration for sponsored research projects (i.e. federal NIH/DOD grant awards, industry clinical trials, foundational grants, etc.).</li>
</ul>
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
<ol>
<li>Facilitates management of pre- and post-award activities, including budget preparation, establishing research accounts, tracking monthly expenditures, and adherence to agency sponsored expense guidelines.</li>
<li>Works with department leadership and Principal Investigators to assess and recommend changes in the structure and functioning of research programs, as needed.</li>
<li>In conjunction with Principal Investigators and Director of Research, develops pre-award proposal materials such as budgets justifications, subcontractor budgets, and scopes of work.</li>
<li>Collaborates with legal counsel in the creation of subcontract/sponsored project agreements as well as negotiates Facilities and Administration/fringe rates for sponsored research projects on an annual basis.</li>
<li>Assists Principal Investigators and Project Managers in preparing annual progress and expenditure reports requested by sponsor organizations, including securing approval and obtaining Institutional signatures for reports, in order to support continuation of funding.</li>
<li>Develops and maintains expertise on state, federal, and organizational regulations and guidelines relating to sponsored research projects/programs.</li>
<li>Makes recommendations on policy issues to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations.</li>
<li>Utilizes hospital financial systems and financial reports to monitor monthly grant expenses and ensure compliance with sponsor/donor regulations.</li>
<li>Prepares and presents reports on actual versus budgeted financial information during site visits and external audits.</li>
<li>Provides information and analysis for long-range financial and cash flow forecasting, projects data trends in spending, provides analysis to determine the best use of funds from sponsored awards.</li>
<li>Monitors budget to actual spending activity and prepares monthly variance reports for Principal Investigators.</li>
<li>Supervises departmental administration of effort reporting as and ensures quality of work product.</li>
<li>Performs additional tasks relating to sponsored awards as requested.</li>

Educational requirements:

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts. Use strong communication skills (written and verbal) to work with all relevant stakeholders, including business development, finance, operations and client account teams. Address and advise on legal matters for the company proactively and as directed. Manage and follow up on inbound and outbound commercial contracts. Salary: $212,826 - $225,000 per year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: LL.M, J.D., or U.S. equivalent in law, plus 5 years of professional experience as an Attorney, Associate, Law Clerk or related occupation/position/job title involving privacy law. &nbsp;
Must also have experience in the following: 5 years of professional experience assessing legal risks relating to data protection and privacy, and identifying and advising on practical, compliant ways to mitigate those risks; 5 years of professional experience working with relevant data privacy statutes, regulations, and guidance; 5 years of professional experience implementing compliant data management solutions within a controlled environment to meet compliance and regulatory compliance; 3 years of professional experience performing transactional law with a focus on media and privacy; 3 years of professional experience at an advertising agency or advertising technology vendor; and 3 years of professional experience independently drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including licensing agreements, SaaS agreements, data licensing agreements, and Ad-tech related agreements.
