Miller Transportation Group seeks an individual to join the organization as Corporate Counsel to assist with the evaluation, preparation, and negotiation of a broad range of business transactions including but not limited to contracts, real estate, insurance, collections, and to participate in other related activities in support of the Business.
Requirements
Essential Duties/Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
<ul>
<li>Draft, review, negotiate, and prepare commercial contracts including supply agreements, sales agreements, real estate contracts, and vendor agreements (including information technology contracts) and provide advice to business teams concerning the same.</li>
<li>Assist with collections and other legal matters relating to Customer defaults.</li>
<li>Assist with and manage Accidents, litigation, and other related topics around daily business operations.</li>
<li>Assist and guide HR on its activities and needs.</li>
<li>Manage all other company legal activities and decide what work would need to be outsourced and what could be handled in-house.</li>
<li>Provide legal advice on general business topics.</li>
<li>Conduct internal training and provide legal guidance on compliance issues as necessary.</li>
<li>Manage external counsel as necessary.</li>
<li>Assist with the purchasing of Insurance and help manage Company insurance programs.</li>
<li>Assist with real estate transactions to include all steps needed to purchase and lease facilities. Responsible for properties, existing leases, upkeep, and so on.</li>
<li>Provide other legal support as necessary.</li>
</ul>
Experience, Competencies, and Education:
<ul>
<li>Law degree (Juris Doctor) from an accredited institution is required.</li>
<li>Admission in good standing to the New Jersey bar is required.</li>
<li>A Minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in areas of specific responsibility gained either in a law firm or an in-house environment although candidates with substantially more experience will be considered.</li>
<li>Experience and skills associated with the transportation industry is a plus.</li>
<li>Experience working in or closely with a mid-size, privately-held company and working knowledge of the industry issues facing our company is a plus.</li>
<li>Must have excellent writing and verbal skills and superior organizational skills.</li>
<li>Must be a team player and have strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively interact and build relationships with employees at all levels of the business.</li>
<li>Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and results-oriented with an ability to manage priorities and substantial workflow in a fast-paced work environment with ever changing business and legal objectives. Must be willing to adapt to change and drive change.</li>
<li>Must possess strong business judgment and the ability to understand and respond to business issues and needs.</li>

Location:

<li>This role will be based in Lumberton NJ. This role is an in-office position and will likely have a small amount of travel to other Miller facilities and to manage real estate.</li>

The role will work closely with the vice presidents of news for both stations and other news managers, providing administrative and editorial support.
Job responsibilities:
