The Assistant Director (AD) for Residential Education reports to the Associate Director for Residential Education and is responsible for oversight and leadership of 2-4 residentially-based Learning Communities (LCs) that house between 1300 to 1900 students (roughly one-third of the on-campus population). The responsibilities of this position include training, supervision, development, and evaluation of 2-3 frontline full-time professional staff members (including Area Coordinators and/or Residence Directors) and 1 Graduate Coordinator. As a member of the Residential Education Leadership Team, the AD is responsible for overseeing the administrative and management functions of their Campus Area, as well as assisting in the development of policies and procedures for the department. The AD supports the ACs/RD to establish Learning Communities that foster community and civic engagement, enhance learning, advance diversity and inclusion, and promote student health, engagement, and success. This is a required live-on position.&nbsp; Successful candidates will be subject to background check due to the live-in nature of this position. Specifically we are attracting several species of lady beetles, lacewings, big eyed bugs, minute pirate bugs, ground beetles and other predators and parasitoids of sweet corn pests to this and other crops. This position will also evaluate/develop sustainable methods of sweet corn insect pest management by conducting laboratory bioassays of flowering plants, weeds, and synthetic herbivore induced plant protection odors which may attract or repel beneficial insects.

Candidates should possess an MFA in a studio art discipline by the time of appointment. The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in modern Chinese culture to begin in Fall 2024. This is an open-rank search. Applicants with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in modern Chinese culture, including in global and comparative contexts from the late nineteenth through the twenty-first century, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in modern Chinese culture, from introductory undergraduate lecture courses through graduate seminars. They will also supervise doctoral dissertations and participate in the programs of the department as well as in area studies initiatives within the larger university community.

Area of expertise may range from medieval to contemporary, with specialty and chronological focus open. The APFF’s primary responsibility will be to serve as Managing Editor for the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies with an additional 1:1 course load teaching Spanish language courses in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Our department is composed of a diverse group of scholars who have worked together to create a rigorous and inclusive environment for research and teaching. In addition to literature, history, and philosophy, faculty in our department work in a range of inter-related areas in the field of cultural studies (including archival studies, animal studies, sexuality studies, migration studies, post-colonial studies, and transatlantic studies) while encouraging new approaches to the study of visual culture, print culture, sound, and performance studies.
