Responsibilities

A reputable firm known for its civil litigation practice, is seeking a mid to senior-level attorney with first-party property litigation experience in North Carolina office. The attorney will be responsible for handling cases in which the firm represents property owners and contractors in first-party insurance disputes. Job duties will include drafting and arguing motions, drafting pleadings and discovery documents, taking and defending depositions, attending mediations, conducting trials and participating in firm sponsored marketing events. Federal Court litigation experience is required. The ideal candidate will have experience litigating first-party property and bad faith claims in state and federal court. Must have trial experience.

Position Summary: 
CLC’s Strategic Litigation team is responsible for a broad portfolio of litigation matters. The team primarily litigates and provides policy advice on CLC’s Rule of Law work. This includes litigating to prevent the federal government, and especially the executive branch, from exceeding the scope of its constitutional power. For example, the team is deeply involved in cases in which the U.S. Department of Justice is demanding that states turn over Americans’ personal data. The Strategic Litigation team is also responsible for working with our Redistricting, Voting Rights, and Campaign Finance teams on matters that arise from those groups, as well as defending and promoting election reforms such as ranked choice voting. 
Responsibilities of the position include assessing litigation opportunities and mapping CLC’s litigation strategy, preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs, conducting discovery, and engaging in all other aspects of trial and appellate proceedings. They also include advising on federal, state and local legislation on subjects within the purview of the Strategic Litigation team, including drafting testimony and testifying as appropriate. 
Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Counsel are eligible to take part in CLC’s hybrid work policy.
