HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1): The duties for the HCW are as follows but not limited to:&nbsp; • The quality of Emergency Services Physician service shall meet or exceed reasonable community&nbsp; standards of professional practice for the health care concerned as determined by the authority that&nbsp; governs military medical professionals in the same discipline.&nbsp; • Be capable of performing the full range of emergency medicine services to include the ability&nbsp; and experience to adequately diagnose and treat diseases and injuries.&nbsp; • Be able to adequately perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following:&nbsp; o Incision and drainage&nbsp; o Nail Trephination&nbsp; o Sling or swath of injuries&nbsp; o Bandage&nbsp; o Reduce dislocations and fractures when appropriate.&nbsp; o Stabilize and evaluate cervical spine injuries as appropriate.&nbsp; o Lumbar puncture&nbsp; o Pericardiocentesis&nbsp; o Removal of foreign bodies as appropriate&nbsp; o Deliver newborn/perform emergency vaginal deliveries.&nbsp; o Perform venous punctures for lab studies and interpret results.&nbsp; o Draw arterial blood gases for evaluation and interpret results.&nbsp; o Suture or staple simple and multilayered lacerations&nbsp; o Remove sutures, surgical staples.&nbsp; o Tube thoracostomy&nbsp; o Open thoracotomy&nbsp; o Secure and maintain an adequate airway, by such means as:&nbsp; o oral airways; oral tracheal intubation; nasal/tracheal intubation; crico-thyrotomy&nbsp; o (Needle and surgical)&nbsp; o Splint and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities.&nbsp; o Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.&nbsp; o Prescribe and administer medications as appropriate.&nbsp; o Secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral and by central.&nbsp; o routes&nbsp; o Diagnostic Peritoneal Lavage (DPL)&nbsp; o Bladder catheterization&nbsp; o NG/OG tubes&nbsp; o Local anesthesia&nbsp; o Restraints&nbsp; o Procedural sedation&nbsp; o Selected screening ultrasound exams&nbsp; • Be able to perform tasks to include, but not limited to, the following:&nbsp; o Coordinate with transfer/accepting facility &amp; other Emergency Departments&nbsp; o Request consults appropriately&nbsp; o Complete all required paperwork&nbsp; o Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment and plan in a timely and appropriate manner&nbsp; on each patient and develop treatment plan&nbsp; o Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate, including non-physician providers&nbsp; o Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate&nbsp; o Interpret electrocardiograms and laboratory tests&nbsp; o Preliminary interpretation of imaging studies to include CAT scans&nbsp; o Direct medical care through radio communication with an ambulance&nbsp; o Provide discharge instructions&nbsp; • Examine patients, render a medical assessment of their condition, and take appropriate action.&nbsp; • Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency patients.&nbsp; • Provide definitive medical care to reduce the emergency medical condition and enable the patient&nbsp; to safely pursue follow-up care as an outpatient as required. Follow-up of abnormal laboratory&nbsp; and/or imaging study, reports is the responsibility of the ordering physician. Review each report in&nbsp; accordance with established MTF procedures.&nbsp; • Respond to "Code Blue" (cardiac or respiratory arrest) medical emergency alerts within the&nbsp; hospital and provide resuscitation treatment until more specialized treatment arrives. Should&nbsp; resuscitation efforts be unsuccessful, the physician shall pronounce the patient dead and notify the&nbsp; next-of-kin, if the next-of-kin is physically present. Although completion of the death certificate is&nbsp; primarily the responsibility of the patient’s primary physician, the Emergency Services physician&nbsp; can complete this document if all the appropriate information is available.&nbsp; • Reassure and treat non-acute conditions in priority as established by medical triage.&nbsp; • Prepare appropriate patient profile changes.&nbsp; • Prepare and document appropriate history, physical examinations, and preoperative diagnosis.&nbsp; Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with MTF directives.&nbsp; • Dispatch and provide medical control for ambulances in accordance with MTF procedures.&nbsp; • &nbsp;Accompany emergency services technicians on ambulance runs when indicated by the nature of&nbsp; the emergency and in accordance with MTF leadership guidance and MTF procedures.&nbsp; • Perform emergency room procedures compatible with the MTF operations capacity, supplies and&nbsp; equipment.&nbsp; • As workload permits during scheduled duty, attend the Emergency Service's monthly staff&nbsp; meetings and any additional committee meetings as required by the individual MTF. The physician&nbsp; may also attend such meetings scheduled during other than their assigned duty shift.

Minimum Required Education, Experience &amp; Skills
