Naval Health Clinic Hawaii (NHCH) reserves the right to reassign the primary work location of contracted personnel based on scheduling needs and operational requirements to meet NHCH mission objectives. NHCH will provide 30-day notice to the contracted personnel when work locations are reassigned, the notice will specify the reassigned work location, effective dates, and relevant details. Should the primary work location close due to renovations, compelling circumstances (i.e. equipment failures) or emergency closures, temporary reassigned work location will be performed at any DHA medical treatment facility located within a 40-mile radius of NHCH. <li>Obtain blood pressure on patients presenting for treatment.</li>
<li>Perform subgingival scaling, root planning and curettage under local anesthesia administered by a dental officer or the dental hygienist and perform topical fluoride applications. Local anesthesia via injection may be administered by the dental hygienist only if licensed to administer local anesthesia and competency (initial as well as ongoing) requirements for local anesthesia administration have been met.</li>
<li>Plan and adapt oral home care techniques to the specific need of the individual patient.</li>
<li>Monitor, provide technical direction and assist in training dental technicians involved in direct patient care to perform scaling, prophylaxes, polishing procedures, fluoride applications and oral home care instructions. This may include preparing and presenting scheduled lectures to staff.</li>
<li>Maintain a record of patient treatment and number of patients treated.</li>
<li>Record oral condition of teeth and supporting tissues, type of therapy provided and progress notes.</li>
<li>Clean and maintain instruments and ensure their sterility.</li>
<li>Treat acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis.</li>
<li>Assist in Oral Diagnosis Sick call to include exposing and developing periapical, bitewing and panoral radiographs.</li>
<li>Clean and maintain the work area to meet the clinic's standards and may be assigned other duties as directed by the Commanding Officer, consistent with the normal duties of a dental hygienist (not to include mopping, sweeping or taking trash to an industrial dumpster).</li>
<li>Administration of local anesthesia (infiltration and block anesthesia) is not a required qualification; however, if the appropriate background training and credentials exist, clinical privileges may be granted.</li>

SUMMARY
An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. This employee is able to handle a wide range of duties while using equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

<li>Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)</li>
<li>Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave</li>
<li>Anticipate Physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinic</li>
<li>Practice urgency at all times with patient's time, as well as doctor's time and schedule</li>
<li>Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA</li>
<li>Verify patient's information by interviewing patient</li>
<li>Record patient's medical history and current medications and confirm purpose of visit</li>
<li>Record all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)</li>
<li>Check condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements</li>
<li>Required skills include: dilation, refraction, pressures, and performing a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor and topography</li>
<li>Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications</li>
<li>Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the Physician</li>
<li>Prepare patients for treatments and minor procedures; measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate) as required</li>
<li>Open and close exam rooms as needed</li>
<li>Keep examination, treatment, laser and any other assigned rooms cleaned and stocked with supplies, and keep drug count up to date.</li>
<li>General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager </li>

<li>This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary. </li>
