What You’ll Do
\n\n
As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your service will focus on coaching and
\n\n
mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students. You will help these
\n\n
students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive
\n\n
behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress and
\n\n
work with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces and other in-class
\n\n
student assistance.
\n\n
Role and Responsibilities
\n\n
Experience in all these tasks is not necessary. We provide 2-4 weeks of training at
\n\n
the beginning of the year to support you. Plus, you will work with partner teachers
\n\n
and school staff every step of the way.
\n\n
Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students:
\n\n
· Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups
\n\n
· Develop literacy and/or math skills varying learning activities by student level,
\n\n
answering student questions and encouraging assignment completion
\n\n
· Create and implement a behavior management system for students
\n\n
· Develop interpersonal skills throughout their day, using proven strategies of
\n\n
learning, practicing, reflection and repetition
\n\n
· Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and
\n\n
monitor individual student progress, participating in facilitated reviews of student
\n\n
data collected and entered into City Year’s student data system· Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
\n\n
Support Whole School initiatives to increase engagement with students and
\n\n
families:
\n\n
· Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students
\n\n
before, during and after school including, but not limited to, academic enrichment
\n\n
and intervention, homework support, recreation and student clubs, service
\n\n
learning, and leadership development
\n\n
· Create, support and/or co-lead events or programs that recognize and appreciate
\n\n
student growth and/or achievement in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
\n\n

As a Special Education Inclusion Teacher, you will be responsible for:
 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
<ul>
<li>Creating challenging, engaging, and universally designed lessons that support learner variability.</li>
<li>Using the UDL Framework to design and implement curriculum standards-based units that include differentiated instruction.</li>
<li>Providing high-quality direct specialized instruction to students according to students IEPs/504 plans.</li>
<li>Developing IEPs/504 plans that are strength-based as well as child and family-centered for overall educational improvement.</li>
<li>Planning and implementing specialized instruction services using the school's curriculum (i.e. High Reach, Everyday Math, Handwriting without Tears, Readers and Writers Workshop, Math in Focus, FOSS, Social Studies Alive, and Second Step).</li>
<li>Ensure the program of instruction meets the individual students' goals and objectives on their IEP/504 plans and is aligned with Common Core Standards.</li>
<li>Collaborating with classroom teacher to implement students IEP/504 plan. This includes planning for: classroom environment, adapting and modifying curriculum, managing classroom behaviors, and connecting with parents and family members.</li>
<li>Modifying and administering classroom-based and school-wide assessments to document student's progress.</li>
<li>Developing a system to regularly collect all specialized instruction data towards IEP/504 plan goals.</li>
<li>Writing quarterly progress reports (IEP progress reports and curriculum progress reports).</li>
<li>Collaborating with related service providers, Special Education Coordinator, Director of Student Support Services, curriculum coordinator, ELL teacher, and students parents to plan for student needs and to ensure skills are generalized across settings.</li>
<li>Facilitate a collaborative relationship with classroom teachers, assistant teachers, and dedicated aides to support students needs and ensure students IEPs are being implemented with fidelity.</li>
<li>Implementing and maintaining students Functional Communication Protocols and Behavioral Intervention Protocols to respond to students' behavior appropriately and successfully.</li>
<li>Participating in eligibility and annual IEP/504 plan meetings by presenting information, completing essential paperwork, and assisting with note-taking.</li>
<li>Managing a detailed log of services provided and services missed due to student or teacher absences.</li>
<li>Writing and modifying lesson plans outlining scope of work for specialized instruction for students with disabilities and submitting lesson plans regularly.</li>
<li>Participating in parent-teacher conferences</li>
<li>Co-facilitating 2 parent events.</li>
<li>Collaborating with curriculum coaches to plan orientation and professional development sessions.</li>
<li>Conducting regular summative and formative assessments to determine student progress.</li>
<li>Receiving EasyIEP training and serving as a resource to others using EasyIEP.</li>
<li>Maintaining specialized instruction supplies</li>
<li>Support the creation of a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the emotional, cognitive and social abilities of the students.</li>
<li>Engaging parents and families in their student's learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community. Provide families with resources to support their child at home and in the community.</li>

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

Salary is based on educational level, certification(s), and years of experience. The successful candidate will be contracted yearly. Employment will be renewed according to evaluations and staff interest.
