The Chinese Support Teacher is instrumental in influencing the lives of children at Global Citizens PCS, so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Support teachers will support the lead Mandarin Chinese teachers with creating a student-centered learning environment that respects the culture and identity of each and every child. In early childhood, our children will learn all content areas in the partner language (Mandarin Chinese) for approximately 90% of the school day. They will learn their early literacy and math skills in English for approximately 10% of the school day. In elementary school (Kindergarten through 5th grade), we use a 50/50 model, where our children receive standards-based instruction (aligned to the Common Core State Standards) in reading, writing, math, and science in the target language for 50% of the time and in English for 50% of the time (each day). Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours. Responsibilities
Attendance Systems &amp; Monitoring (25%)
<ul>
<li>System Development: Design and implement systems to help school teams record accurate daily attendance and track student tardiness.</li>
<li>Data Management: Enter attendance for tardy students and perform building "sweeps" to verify that physical attendance matches digital records</li>
<li>Communication: Make daily outreach calls for absent students and report attendance trends to school and regional leadership.</li>
</ul>
Building Preparation &amp; Operations (25%)
<ul>
<li>Logistics: Support leaders and teachers with the delivery of materials and the physical setup/breakdown of classrooms.</li>
<li>Systems Setup: Assist in establishing operational flows for student arrival, dismissal, and lunch service.</li>
<li>Transition Support: Work with partners and school leaders to "break down" buildings at the end of summer and prepare them for the new school year.</li>
</ul>
Student Culture &amp; Engagement (25%)
<ul>
<li>PBIS Data: Support school teams by managing data entry for student incentive systems.</li>
<li>Student Incentives: Facilitate the daily operations of the campus school store, including inventory management.</li>
<li>Events: Assist school teams and external vendors in coordinating student celebrations and designing systems for field trips.</li>
</ul>
Out-of-School-Time Support (25%)
<ul>
<li>Enrollment: Directly support the Director of Out-of-School Time with the aftercare enrollment process.</li>
<li>Organization: Manage classroom materials and resources dedicated to out-of-school-time programming.</li>
<li>Communications: Develop and post flyers, signage, and other materials to welcome children and families to the building.</li>
<li>General Admin: Support with various administrative tasks as they arise to prepare for the school year.</li>
</ul>
Requirements &amp; Preferences
Required Qualifications (3-5):
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma/GED Equivalent&nbsp;</li>
<li>Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program&nbsp;</li>
<li>Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Google Docs is required.</li>
<li>Experience with Canva is a plus for developing flyers and classroom signage.</li>
<li>Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.</li>
<li>Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for parent outreach and team collaboration.</li>
</ul>
Physical Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Ability to lift up to 10 pounds</li>
<li>Ability to stand frequently&nbsp;</li>
<li>Physical Ability: Comfortable moving classroom materials and navigating the building for attendance sweeps.</li>
<li>Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools and throughout Washington, DC.</li>
</ul>

 Benefits &amp; Compensation
The KIPP DC summer internship program offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.00, allowing you to gain valuable experience while earning a decent income. Interns are eligible to work up to 30 hours per week, providing flexibility to balance your work and personal life.&nbsp;
Please note that the program will follow the KIPP DC HDQ holiday calendar which includes two unpaid holidays: Juneteenth (June 19) and the 4th of July observation (July 3), giving you time to celebrate and recharge.
