BASIS DC is seeking qualified candidates for a Special Education Instructional Assistant to start ASAP!

Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>A high school diploma</li>
<li>A valid fingerprint clearance card and/or satisfactory applicable state background check.</li>
</ul>
Required Experience:
<ul>
<li>Experience working with children, especially children with special needs such as EBD/Autism support or behavior issues</li>
<li>Experience with teaching and/or tutoring</li>
<li>Understanding of behavior support/modification</li>
<li>Familiarity with inclusion of special needs students within the general education setting</li>
</ul>
Primary Job Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Work 1 on 1 with a child, with special needs such as EBD/Autism support or behavior issues</li>
<li>Work with students with special needs in general education settings (classrooms, halls, lunchroom, playground, etc.) one on one or in small groups</li>
<li>Assist student with staying on task during classwork and class activities</li>
<li>Encourage student's social and emotional development</li>
<li>Reinforce positive behavior</li>
<li>Liaise with the SPED coordinator, parents and other stakeholders</li>
<li>Support the learning expert teacher and the subject expert teachers in the classroom</li>
<li>Maintain confidentiality of student records and progress information</li>
<li>Ability to assist with adaptive technology</li>
<li>Enthusiastic about working with students with special needs</li>
<li>Perform other duties as requested</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Specializes in autistic support</li>
<li>Demonstrate knowledge and credibility to parents, students, staff, supervisors, and outside agencies through oral and written communication that is timely, confident, and articulate</li>
<li>Experience working with children, ability to perform tasks with precision (attention to detail, adherence to timelines)</li>
<li>Excellent organizational skills and facility with office technology</li>
<li>Open to new ideas in education</li>
</ul>

Requirements: 
<ul>
<li>Need to have obtained some post-secondary credits in Early Childhood Education or related area. </li>
<li>Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications that Fraser provides.</li>
<li>Ability to pass a DHS background check</li>
<li>Must be able to work independently and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.</li>

Responsibilities for Lead Teacher:
<ul>
<li>Responsible for running the classroom, including curriculum planning, child assessment, communication and conferences</li>
<li>Implementation of curriculum, adapt lessons for all children's needs and abilities, provide 1:1 support to children as needed.</li>
<li>Welcomes, talks and meets with parents as needed</li>
<li>Observes and reports on the well-being of children</li>
<li>Coaching of Assistant Teachers in the Classroom</li>
<li>Provide on-going written and verbal communication to families about their child’s development</li>
</ul>
