 RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to:

<li>Provide day-to-day assistance to the Vice Chancellor and the department on a wide range of assignments. Review the Vice Chancellor's incoming and outgoing correspondence and signature items. </li>
<li>Exercise judgment and independent initiative in bringing information or issues to the Vice Chancellor. </li>
<li>Maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues; prioritize assignments; appropriately distribute information, recommend action as appropriate and provide suggestions for resolution or resolve independently whenever feasible. </li>
<li>Perform initial review of items for the Vice Chancellor's attention and/or signature. Ensure items are complete, accurate, and in compliance with appropriate policies or procedures. Coordinate with department staff and others to correct deficiencies. </li>
<li>Compile and coordinate relevant background information or facilitate appropriate briefings for appointments, meetings, and conferences. </li>
<li>Assist in review of documents produced by the department, including ad hoc and routine reports and presentations, Board of Regents agenda items, and record requests. Monitor documents for ADA accessibility. </li>
<li>Provide administrative support for multiple committees such as Academic Affairs Council, Student Affairs Council, Nevada Student Alliance, Nevada WICHE Commission meetings, Power-Based Violence Task Force meetings and other system-level groups. Maintain a list of potential agenda items, compile the agenda and reference materials, and draft and prepare meeting minutes as assigned. </li>
<li>Coordinate reception of visitors, consultants, or committee members. </li>
<li>Create follow-up correspondence for program approvals post-meeting. </li>
<li>Keep a complete and current roster and email group for all ASA related committees and working groups, updating throughout the academic year, and inform the groups of changes. </li>
<li>Oversee all travel arrangements for all ASA Staff, including the creation of travel worksheet summaries, spend authorizations and expense reports. </li>
<li>Oversee logistics for the Regents' Award program selection process, including sending notifications and coordinating with institutions on issuing awards. </li>
<li>Distribute and post agendas for meetings as required by Nevada Open Meeting Law. </li>
<li>Serve as the initial contact for processing student requests for Millenium Scholarship extension appeals. </li>
<li>Assist the Vice Chancellor with processing institutional requests for Temporary Part-Time Teaching Faculty - Requests for Exception to Limitation to 75 Percent of FTE per semester. </li>
<li>Coordinate communications between the Vice Chancellor and the members of the Chancellor's Cabinet, Vice Chancellors, Presidents, Regents, Faculty Senate, government officials, community leaders, students, faculty, and staff. </li>
<li>Coordinate communications with external entities, including but not limited to institutional administrators, Nevada Department of Education administrators, Nevada school district superintendents, WICHE, etc. </li>
<li>Coordinate and maintain the daily and long-term schedule for the Vice Chancellor. Make decisions relating to the coordination of meetings, conferences, travel, and standing meetings. Exercise good judgment for optimum utilization of the Vice Chancellor's time. </li>
<li>Plan and organize special meetings and events for the department. Coordinate the logistics of web and video conferences. </li>
<li>Answer phones and handle routine inquiries; assist the office manager with covering front desk duties when other coverage is not available. </li>
<li>Demonstrate understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the NSHE students, faculty, staff, and community. </li>
<li>Resolve informal complaints or refer as appropriate and inform the Vice Chancellor of their resolution. </li>
<li>Assist the Vice Chancellor and ASA staff in compiling documentation and/or data and preparing responses to inquiries, interacting with staff at all levels. </li>

The purpose of this program is to support the work of early-career researchers, who will lead the next generation of scholarship in race and ethnicity and whose work will point the way forward for reshaping race relations in America. Fellowships may be in any of the seven schools in the University (Business, Doerr School of Sustainability, Education, Engineering, Humanities &amp; Sciences, Law, Medicine).
Applicants will be asked to identify the school or department that aligns with the field of their Ph.D. The selected fellows will be assigned a faculty mentor from their home department or school and will have the opportunity to be involved with the other early career fellows and Stanford faculty in a variety of activities. Informally, they will be invited to lunches and dinners to meet with other Stanford faculty who share their interests. They also will be invited to engage with the intellectual programming offered by the African and African-American Studies program, the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and the Martin Luther King Research and Education Institute.
The early career fellows will have an opportunity each year to teach one course that will be cross-listed in the curricula of the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and/or the African and African American Studies program. This course may be taught by the fellow or the fellow may team-teach a course with another member of the Stanford faculty. The fellows also will be involved in the organization of a major conference that brings to Stanford scholars who are at the forefront of scholarship in the study of race and ethnicity.
Criteria: Scholars interested in any field of study are accepted. Early career fellows should have received their terminal degree (PhD, JD, MFA, EdD, DSW, etc.) prior to the start of the fellowship. Selection criteria include the originality and quality of the research, as well as demonstrated potential for intellectual achievement. The term of these fellowships is three years, with a start date of September 1, 2024. To be eligible for an early career fellowship, a candidate must have received their terminal degree no earlier than September 1, 2021.

The multi-year NIH FIRST (Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation) initiative intends to enhance inclusive excellence at competitively determined institutions across the United States. Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range.&nbsp;The base salary range for this position will be $9650 - $13500&nbsp;per month on a 9-month basis ($86,850 - $121,500 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.&nbsp;
The position will begin on September 16, 2024, and is full time with a 9-month service period.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in sociology or closely related field by the start of the appointment.
