Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Director of Education Services as well as in accordance with the mission of the Ada Jenkins Center and purpose of the LEARN Works Afterschool Academic &amp; Enrichment Program, the ML LEARN Works Instructor will be directly responsible for supporting the reading progress, the academic enrichment of a group of elementary Multilingual Learners, and for providing strong, caring supervision at all times, using explicit instruction practices and ML resources.
 
Job Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Minimally one year certificate from college or technical school; or six months to a year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years of experience working with elementary school students preferred.</li>
<li>ESL, TESOL, or certified in a similar program. If not currently certified at the time of hire, TESOL certification can be acquired shortly after.</li>
<li>Fluency and literacy in another language preferred.</li>
<li>Must already be familiar with or willing to learn and employ the program's philosophy utilizing Love and Logic principles in working children and families.</li>
<li>Prior experience working with volunteers preferred.</li>
<li>Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.</li>
<li>Comfortable with online instruction and familiar with Microsoft Office apps preferred.</li>
<li>CPR and First Aid Certified. If not currently certified at the time of hire, certification can be acquired shortly after.</li>

Principle Functions:
Develop elementary students academically:
<ul>
<li>English Language Development &amp; Reading Support: Create and implement lessons for groups of ML students utilizing determined curriculum(s), explicit instruction, ML resources. Coach students in whole group, small groups, pairs and/or individually regarding English proficiency skills and the use of reading strategies. Monitor the progress of each student on an ongoing basis, provide students with consistent feedback about progress and achievement and provide feedback to parents about the progress of their student at determined intervals or as requested.</li>
</ul>
 
Coordinate enrichment programming:
<ul>
<li>Coordinate and implement enrichment activities to enhance academic instruction and provide opportunities for real life application of skills.</li>
<li>Collaborate with fellow LEARN Works instructors for ML students to participate in class/grade level(s) enrichment.</li>
<li>Ensure students complete evaluation or assessments as needed.</li>
</ul>
 
Manage classroom and develop students' social skills: 
Model student expectations and the Love and Logic philosophy for program participants.
Ensure that the Love and Logic philosophy is consistently applied in classroom and other settings.
<ul>
<li>Identify students in need of extra support for social skill development and implement strategies designed to promote the students' abilities to make good choices.</li>
<li>Provide participants with encouragement about their personal growth and development. </li>
<li>Establish routines and procedures for the classroom that maintain a safe, positive learning climate for participants.</li>
<li>Set and model the tone for your classroom to foster a conducive environment for learning and participation.</li>
</ul>
 
Complete Administrative/Routine Tasks:
<ul>
<li>Complete communications and efforts in the Afterschool 201 database.</li>
<li>Complete weekly lesson plans.</li>
<li>Enter students' assessment scores in the Afterschool 201 database.</li>
<li>Submit monthly success stories in Afterschool 201 database.</li>
<li>Participate in the evaluation process for students and volunteers.</li>
</ul>
 
Manage personal growth:
<ul>
<li>Attend training sessions as required.</li>
<li>Participate in observations and coaching check-ins.</li>
<li>Establish performance goals, performance mid-year check-ins, and self and supervisor annual performance appraisals.</li>
<li>Participate in the development of the program.</li>
<li>Attend team meetings.</li>
<li>Communicate with supervisor and colleagues about needs and concerns.</li>

Establish a relationship, communicate, and collaborate with partners:
<ul>
<li>Parents: Establish a relationship with each parent, communicate regularly with parents via communication platforms, keep parents informed of their student's progress, attend parent workshops scheduled during the school year, conduct parent conferences on scheduled dates during the school year and as other needs arise.</li>
<li>Volunteers: Establish a relationship with volunteers assigned to classroom, effectively use volunteers assigned to your classroom by incorporating them in your whole group instruction and placing them with small groups or pairs of students as appropriate, guide the work of volunteers by providing them with direction and encourage input during daily briefings and debriefings, monitor relationships between volunteers and students, and provide supervision of volunteers and feedback to volunteers. Participate in volunteer appreciation events.</li>

As an After-School Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing a supportive and engaging environment for children during their after-school hours. We work with children PreK 3 - 5th grade.
 
Please note this position starts August 25, 2025 - this is not a summer position.
 
Key Responsibilities:
- Required availability Monday to Friday 3:00 to 6:00 PM. No partial weeks.
-Engage and teach children various activities, such as arts and crafts, STEM, homework and monitor playground and snack time.

DC Scholars Before/After School Program is looking for part-time Before Care/After Care Teachers. We seek quality leaders who are dedicated and committed to enriching our youth. &nbsp;

Key Responsibilities:&nbsp;

<li>Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars in Grade Levels Preschool to 8th grade</li>
<li>Use developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and ensure and maintain a safe environment</li>
<li>Supervise students in assigned classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure /safety, proper conduct, and individual attention</li>
<li>Attendance at occasional special events (Joyful Market, Parent Nights, events after school), where additional hours worked will be paid at an hourly rate.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Act as a positive role model to scholars and fellow team members at DC Scholars Public Charter School</li>
<li>Maintain open and frequent communication with the scholar's teacher and parents on the scholar’s academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional strengths and areas of growth</li>
<li>Strong organization and able to meet deadlines consistently</li>
<li>Conveys information effectively and efficiently using verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. All written materials are accurate, clear, and grammatically correct.</li>

Background, Experience, and Desired Skills

<li>High School diploma &nbsp;</li>
<li>1 year of teaching experience and/or 1 year of experience working in a childcare/school setting&nbsp;</li>
