DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES
Educational Services: promote cognitive development and + learning dispositions in ALL children. 
• Assists with implementing Creative Curriculum, Lancaster County Head Start’s Daily Structures, and instructional strategies in accordance with program guidelines to fidelity. 
• Plans lessons as needed. 
• Follows schedules, daily routines and lesson plans of each classroom. 
• Prepares classrooms. 
• Uses responsive language with children. 
• Participates in individualized instruction for children with disabilities and individual needs. 
Health and Safety: promote healthy growth &amp; habits in children and provide a safe environment. 
• Follows all safety and health procedures and expectations as outlined by regulatory standards (DHS, 
STARS, EHS, or Head Start Performance standards). 
• Provides adequate supervision of children at all times as defined in Thrive to Five policies and procedures. 
• Follow all meal service standards as outlined by CACFP. 
• Follows all guidance to prevent the spread of illness as defined by Thrive to Five’s policies and procedures such as but not limited to daily health checks, use of gloves and masks, etc. 
• Uses meals &amp; snacks times to teach about health, sanitation and proper nutrition 
• Assists with ensuring all children receive the required dental, vision, hearing, and BMI screenings under 
the guidance of the lead teacher and the Health and Safety manager. 
• Teaches children proper safety skills such as but not limited to tooth brushing, hand washing, walking to/from spaces, using tissues, etc. 
• Follows all procedures when assisting children with the toilet or changing a diaper. 
• Follows all procedures when supervising and assisting children with rest time. IE, following safe sleep procedures for infants. Supervising rest time appropriately with older children. 
Social Emotional: promotes healthy social and emotional growth in children. 
• Implements PBIS universal practices established by Thrive to Five. 
• Teaches and models social-emotional skills and practices. 
• Implements interventions, such as Teacher Support Plans and Safety Plans with support from intra/inter agency teams (Program Coordinators, Early Childhood Behavior Specialists (ECBS) or Mental Health Consultants). 
• Maintains current knowledge about challenging behavior and mental health concerns. 
• Implements behavior support plans as needed. 
• Follows the responsive scale of discipline. 
Family Engagement: facilitate respectful, mutually supportive relationships with families. 
• Assists in providing a welcoming environment for families. Models’ enthusiasm and promotes parent/child activities. 
• Maintains parent/staff rapport and mutual confidence and trust with classroom team. 
• Provides updates on classroom closures. 
Professionalism: promotes and maintains professional relationships. 
• Follows all Community Action Partnership (CAP) and Thrive to Five policies, procedures and systems.
• Demonstrates the CAP Values. 
• Works with Early Learning Coordinator ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and quality standards. 
• Works with Early Learning Coordinator to reflect on coaching feedback and set professional development goals. 
• Work with all staff to develop strategies to resolve interpersonal problems that affect program operation. 
• Attends and participates in mandatory trainings, workshops, and meetings related to professional development and job requirements and such optional trainings as necessary to maintain optimal performance. 
• Maintains all required certifications and licenses. 
• Timely review and response to internal and external communication. 
• Actively participates in committee work as needed. 
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications for an Aide:

What your day looks like:
<ul>
<li>Assist lead teacher in the development and implementation of lesson plans based on developmentally age-appropriate activities, to provide the children with a consistent daily routine. </li>
<li>Assist in the implementation of lesson plans for activities based on the needs of the children and prepare a suitable physical and nurturing environment for ALL children so that they may grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually. </li>
<li>Ensure that the Child Enrichment Center meets licensing and all other legal compliance regulations including Department of Human Services (DHS), Keystone STARS, Pre-K Counts, and Child &amp; Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). </li>
<li>Maintain a team atmosphere within the room. </li>
<li>Assist in the instruction and implementation of daily activities and creation of a positive, stimulating room environment. </li>
<li>Assess the children in their classroom by using developmental assessments twice per year. Assists with recording data into the Teaching Strategies Gold System before scheduled deadlines. </li>
<li>Hold parent/teacher conferences twice a year. </li>
<li>Maintain appropriate interactions with children, parents, and staff. </li>
<li>Work cooperatively with the Center Director and staff to uphold a positive affiliation within the YWCA childcare programs (including, but not limited to Early Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and School Age Development program) </li>
<li>Participate within the guidelines of the Pre-K Counts grant, by meeting the requirements of the mentoring expectation within the partnership agreement. </li>
<li>Stay familiar with all YWCA Lancaster policies and procedures, Childcare Manual procedures, Keystone STARS to ensure program quality </li>
<li>Orient new parents and staff to room and meet with parents when needed. </li>
<li>Attending monthly staff meetings. </li>
<li>Attend a minimum of 27 hours of training per year. </li>
<li>Maintain a current Professional Development Plan for Keystone STARS. </li>
<li>Advocate for Early Childhood Education programs in Pennsylvania. </li>
<li>Enforce center policies with parents, students, and children by upholding and demonstrating the YWCA mission. </li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned and/or required by Pre-K Counts grant guidelines. </li>

Who you are: 
<ul>
<li>A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university in early childhood education and two years’ experience related to the care and development of children. </li>
<li>Certification in early childhood education preferred. </li>
<li>Must be able to lift 45 lbs. and have movement ability to sit, stand, crawl, climb, lift overhead, bend and move from sitting position on floor to standing position. </li>
<li>Respect for children and their parents, as well as a belief in the individuality of each child, a commitment to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women. </li>
