Job Title: Commercial Carpenter
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Carpenter! In this role, you work on interior fit-outs, remodels, and ground-up projects of various sizes. You perform steel stud framing, drywall installation and finishing, interior door and hardware installation, flooring, trim work, and general carpentry tasks. You also support basic demolition and assist with light plumbing and electrical work as needed. You read and interpret blueprints, operate hand and power tools safely, and maintain a clean, organized job site. Success in this role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, safety awareness, and a genuine willingness to learn and grow.
Responsibilities
- Perform commercial carpentry work on interior fit-outs, remodels, and ground-up construction projects.
- Complete steel stud framing for walls and partitions according to plans and specifications.
- Install, finish, and repair drywall, including taping, mudding, and sanding to a high-quality finish.
- Install interior doors, frames, and hardware accurately and securely.
- Execute trim work and finish carpentry, including baseboards, casing, and other interior finishes.
- Install and assist with multiple flooring types and systems as required by project scope.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work correctly.
- Use tape measures, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively to build, cut, and install materials.
- Perform basic demolition tasks in preparation for new construction or remodeling work.
- Assist with light plumbing and electrical tasks under appropriate supervision when needed.
- Follow all job site safety procedures and OSHA guidelines, including proper use of PPE.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each project.
- Collaborate with other trades, supervisors, and team members in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Meet project deadlines and support adherence to construction schedules and timelines.
- Demonstrate reliability, strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience with steel stud framing, drywall installation, and interior fit-outs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Hands-on experience with remodels and ground-up construction projects.
- Basic knowledge of light plumbing and electrical work.
- Experience installing interior doors, frames, and hardware.
- Strong understanding of job site safety practices and OSHA guidelines.
- Proficiency using hand and power tools commonly used in construction and carpentry.
- Ability to perform rough and finish carpentry, including framing, trim work, and general installation.
- Capability to work in physically demanding conditions, including standing, lifting, climbing, and bending.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality, with a solid work ethic and willingness to learn.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Lift or equipment operation certification.
- NCCER Certification.
- Experience with multiple flooring types and systems.
- Expanded knowledge of commercial construction trades beyond carpentry.
- Strong construction math skills and tape measure proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively in occupied spaces and active construction zones.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and pride in quality craftsmanship.

Work Environment
You work in both indoor and outdoor settings on commercial construction projects that range from occupied spaces to active construction zones. You encounter varying conditions, including noise, dust, and changing temperatures, and you regularly perform physically demanding tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting materials, climbing ladders, and bending. Some work may take place at heights using ladders or lifts, following strict safety procedures. The environment is team-oriented, with frequent collaboration among trades and supervisors, and operates at a fast pace with clear deadlines and project timelines. There is a strong emphasis on safety, including consistent use of appropriate PPE and adherence to OSHA guidelines.

This is a Contract position based out of Urbana, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $33.00/hr.
