HORTICULTURE SPECIALIST
Definition
Under general supervision of Assistant Principal, the incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, and presenting lessons related to growing plants, gardening, nature and science. Lessons are geared toward the individual student’s abilities through the use of adaptations, modifications and accommodations, and as appropriate aligned with the classroom teaching themes. It is important to note that while providing horticulture lessons the therapist is responsible for the supervision of the student(s) that may require the ability to keep up with a running student and or to lift or assist with lifting the student. This is essential to perform this task. 
In accordance with the federal wage-hour laws, this is a salaried position and is not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) minimum wage and overtime pay requirements. Note that a part time employee will be treated as non-exempt and paid in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Other Performance Measures:
Successful performance on the job requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or students, school dress standards, proper attendance and leave policies and compliance with other policies set forth in the Employee Handbook. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving is also important to the success of the incumbent. Attend and participate in weekly team, staff and development meetings; read and accept responsibility for weekly staff notes and all policies and procedures. Complete all paperwork accurately and timely. Perform bus duty detail as assigned. Support the overall school mission through volunteer opportunities and contribute to the smooth operation of the school day.
Examples of Essential Functions

<li>Research, plan, adapt, schedule and present horticulture-related lessons based on the student’s abilities and developmental level.</li>
<li>Interface with teachers to connect horticultural lessons with teaching themes as appropriate; consult with therapists to adapt lessons to individual student’s physical and communication abilities.</li>
<li>Provide horticultural experiences appropriate to the developmental skills of students in conjunction with the classroom teacher.</li>
<li>Research and suggest ongoing projects or community-based instruction that supports the learning concepts associated with growing plants and flowers.</li>
<li>Prepare, maintain and help students to learn how to maintain the flower beds outside the school building.</li>
<li>Research and consult with horticulture professionals as needed; attend events related to gardening with children.</li>
<li>Determines annual plant and seed requirements for landscaping outside flower beds and in school Horticulture classroom area. </li>
<li>Order supplies and materials necessary to carry out lesson plans.</li>
<li>Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc. </li>
<li>The ability to keep up with running children and or to lift or assist with lifting students is essential.</li>
<li>Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and staff personal identifiable information.</li>

Here’s what you’d do:
The Spray Technician is a member of the spray crew who reports to and takes direction from the Spray Foreman and provides instruction to other members of the spray crew.
You’d be responsible for:

As a Climbing Arborist, you would be responsible for: 
<ul>
<li>Operating heavy equipment, hand, and power equipment, such as bucket trucks, brush trucks, claw trucks, chippers, pole saws, pruning saws, pole pruners, power pole saws, and chainsaws.</li>
<li>Repairing, sharpening, and maintaining equipment and tools </li>
<li>Performing basic felling and rigging, along with aerial rigging over obstacles</li>
<li>Leading a 2-person&nbsp;pruning crew while completing pruning &amp; removal projects </li>
<li>Ensuring all appropriate tools, supplies, and materials are loaded on truck, well maintained and accounted for, along with ensuring equipment is inspected and prepared with fuel and fluids</li>
<li>Performing job briefing and assisting Crew Leader in work zone set-up and utilizing safety PPE</li>
<li>Completing tree risk assessment and job site assessment, along with communicating with homeowners about services Arbor Masters offers, and performing pre- and post-job walk-throughs</li>
<li>Communicating verbally and visually with all members of the crew </li>
<li>Assisting in debris cleanup at job completion</li>
</ul>
As an Arborist Crew Leader, you would be responsible for:
<ul>
<li>Motivating and guiding team in a positive manner and ensuring daily production goals are met</li>
<li>Operating equipment including but not limited to hand saws, pole pruners, pole saws, pruning saws, chain saws, stump grinders, bucket trucks, claw trucks, chippers and aerial lifts</li>
<li>Maintaining and repairing small tools and equipment such as blowers, chainsaws and chippers</li>
<li>Ensuring all appropriate tools, supplies, and materials are loaded on truck, well maintained and accounted for, along with ensuring equipment is inspected, cleaned and prepared with fuel and fluids</li>
<li>Reviewing work to be performed with customers, completing paperwork, conducting post-job customer walkthroughs, and collecting payments upon completion of work</li>
<li>Conducting job briefings and assigning tasks to crew members, along with work zone set-up</li>
<li>Communicating and reinforcing industry safety standards and company policies while utilizing safety PPE</li>
<li>Supervising tree crew while performing tree pruning and removals and assisting in debris cleanup</li>
<li>Performing supplemental support (cabling and bracing) techniques</li>
<li>Completing OSHA and AMTL accident reports and incident reports when necessary</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Must be a team player with a positive attitude, able to advise, train and motivate team members</li>
<li>Must have a valid driver’s license and possess a class C driver’s license</li>
<li>CDL class A or class B License with airbrake endorsement is preferred, but not required</li>
<li>Must be at least 18 years old</li>
<li>Minimum of 3-5&nbsp;years climbing experience and/or 5&nbsp;years documented foreman experience</li>
<li>Advanced knowledge of proper tree pruning and removal techniques, along with skilled cabling and bracing techniques, and knowledge of various knots used in roping and technical rigging</li>
<li>Experience with technical rigging for use in trimming and large removals</li>
<li>Ability to complete labor-intensive outdoor work with exposure to a variety of weather conditions</li>
<li>Ability to navigate uneven terrain, stand, walk, bend, crouch, reach, and lift in excess of 50lbs on a regular basis, along with the ability to work effectively at heights above 10 feet</li>
<li>Experience operating bucket or claw trucks preferred</li>
