The Librarian for Science, Engineering and Computing participates in University Libraries’ liaison program in support of the teaching and research endeavors of the College of Engineering and Computing and the STEM areas of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina.
Essential functions include:
- Partnering with faculty to integrate research skills into the curricula and develop collections which sustain and advance the department’s research goals
- Designing and teaching instructional sessions and workshops in a variety of formats, as well as creating tutorials, guides, and other digital learning objects to develop and enhance students’ research and literacy skills
- Providing research consultations
- Seeking opportunities to develop and strengthen relationships between the library and assigned departments as well as across the university community.
- Keeping up with trends and developments in the research methodologies and practices of areas of responsibility
- Collaborating with colleagues in Research & Instruction in first year instruction, general research and reference assistance, and overall outreach efforts
- Participating in professional development and continuing education activities
- Performing other related duties as assigned to meet the goals of the Libraries and University.
As a tenured faculty member, the Librarian for Science, Engineering and Computing is expected to fulfill requirements in librarianship, service and scholarly activity as described in University Libraries tenure criteria. Reports to the Head of the Research & Instruction Department.
