Role Summary:
The Facility Manager – Manufacturing Operations is responsible for overseeing facility infrastructure that supports manufacturing operations and production activities. This role ensures that buildings, utilities, production areas, and supporting systems remain fully operational, compliant, and scalable to support production growth from early builds through structured manufacturing expansion.

The Facility Manager serves as the primary point of contact for facility-related regulatory compliance, local jurisdiction and county requirements, landlord coordination, and execution of structural or infrastructure modifications. The role partners closely with manufacturing, engineering, safety, and operations teams to ensure facility readiness aligns with operational and production objectives.

This position supports initial manufacturing operations in Sterling, Virginia, and leads facility transition planning and operational readiness for the Winchester, Virginia manufacturing site beginning in Year 2 and continuing through future expansion phases.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure daily operational readiness of manufacturing facilities to support uninterrupted production.
  • Oversee and maintain critical building systems, including generators, HVAC, electrical, compressed air, and utilities.
  • Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs and respond to infrastructure issues impacting uptime.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with county officials, inspectors, regulatory authorities, and landlords.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, fire codes, occupancy requirements, and lease constraints.
  • Coordinate and secure permits for structural modifications, equipment installation, and facility upgrades.
  • Ensure all infrastructure and structural changes are properly approved, documented, and communicated.
  • Coordinate facility layouts, workstation installations, and production line setup.
  • Manage contractors and oversee construction, modifications, and infrastructure adjustments.
  • Ensure utility readiness and infrastructure capacity (electrical, ventilation, and related systems) for production ramp and specialized manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and support facility evolution from early-stage builds to scaled manufacturing, including long-term expansion.
  • Manage maintenance vendors, service providers, and contractor relationships.
  • Oversee service agreements to ensure performance, quality, and cost control.
  • Own procurement and inventory management of facility and manufacturing consumables, including PPE, cleaning supplies, composite-related materials, maintenance materials, and general operational or office supplies.
  • Ensure continuous availability of supplies to support production uptime.
  • Establish stocking strategies, reorder points, and vendor relationships in coordination with Supply Chain.
  • Monitor usage and maintain cost control.
  • Manage the facility operating budget, track expenditures, and support capital planning and execution for infrastructure improvements and expansion.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • 7+ years' experience in facility management within industrial or manufacturing environments. 
  • Strong working knowledge of: 
  • Local building codes 
  • Fire and occupancy requirements 
  • County permitting processes 
  • Lease and landlord compliance requirements 
  • Experience managing structural modifications and equipment installations. 
  • Experience coordinating contractors and inspectors. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 

Preferred:

  • Experience in aerospace or advanced manufacturing facilities. 
  • Experience supporting composite or specialized industrial environments. 
  • Experience managing multi-site operations. 
  • Experience leading facility transitions or site expansions. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in both office and active manufacturing/industrial environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout production, warehouse, and facility areas for extended periods while conducting inspections, audits, and project oversight.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 25–50 pounds.
  • Ability to access all areas of the facility, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, loading docks, and utility spaces, which may require climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections of building systems, equipment installations, safety conditions, and infrastructure components.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and computers for extended periods while managing documentation, reporting, and facility systems.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, hard hats, or other equipment as required in manufacturing or construction environments.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, and typical manufacturing conditions.
  • Ability to respond to facility issues or emergencies that may require rapid movement throughout the site.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, inspectors, and external vendors in both office and industrial settings.
