Greenwich Country Day School seeks to hire a Senior Network & Infrastructure Engineer to start in June 2026. This role will be responsible for the design, stability, security, and long-term evolution of the school’s core technology infrastructure. This role serves as the senior technical lead supporting servers, wired and wireless networks, backups, cybersecurity systems, and construction-related technology planning, while working closely with internal staff, vendors, and consultants.This position represents a strategic shift from external consultant management to internal ownership. It is hands-on but strategic, balancing daily operational reliability with long-term financial and lifecycle planning appropriate for an independent N–12 school environment.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning & Financial Management
- Capital Budgeting: Create, request, and purchase capital budgets for network and server infrastructure.
- Lifecycle Management: Develop and execute rotation plans for servers, switches, firewalls, network storage, and wireless access points to ensure performance and reliability.
- Vendor Management: Act as the senior technical liaison for network and infrastructure vendors; review proposals, ensure SLA compliance, and hold vendors accountable for deliverables.
Network & Infrastructure Operations
- Network Administration: Manage core network infrastructure, including routing, VLANs, and switching, specifically for an environment of 90+ Cisco switches and 266+ Access Points.
- Server Operations: Design, maintain, and document on-prem and cloud-based server environments, ensuring consistent patching and performance monitoring.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Oversee comprehensive backup strategies and business continuity planning to ensure data integrity.
- Domain Management of Windows and Google Work Environments. In coordination with the Network Administrator.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed network diagrams and system documentation to ensure institutional knowledge is retained internally.
Construction & Facilities Technology
- Design & Planning: Represent the Technology department at construction design meetings and renovation planning sessions.
- Implementation: Coordinate low-voltage designs, MDF/IDF planning, and infrastructure standards; review drawings and submittals to ensure technology readiness for new spaces.
Cybersecurity (Shared Ownership)
- Tool Management: Administer and tune cybersecurity tools, including firewalls, endpoint protection, SIEM, and web filtering.
- Incident Response: Coordinate response and remediation efforts for security incidents and support audits or cyber insurance compliance requirements.
- Monitoring: Review, assess, and triage network and security alerts in partnership with the Network Administrator.
Tier 3 Support & Leadership
- Escalated Support: Handle "elevated tickets" and chronic technical issues that require advanced troubleshooting, serving as the escalation point for the support team.
- Mentorship: Mentor and support the Network Administrator and technical support staff, fostering a collaborative team approach.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Partner with Facilities, Finance, and Administration on organizational planning.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in network and systems engineering, with a proven track record of transitioning from operational maintenance to strategic infrastructure ownership.
- Scale & Scope: Demonstrated ability to manage and troubleshoot large-scale enterprise networks, specifically environments capable of supporting 90+ switches and 250+ Access Points.
- Strategic & Financial Acumen: Experience creating and managing capital budgets for IT infrastructure, including lifecycle rotation planning for servers, switches, and wireless hardware.
- Construction Experience: Previous experience representing Technology in construction design meetings and coordinating low-voltage designs.
- Operational Availability: Ability to provide support for critical issues with the flexibility to perform maintenance and upgrades outside of standard business hours to minimize downtime.
- Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and act as the primary liaison for external vendors.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated capacity to maintain composure during critical outages ("doesn't panic") and solve unfamiliar technical challenges efficiently.
Technical Skills & Stack ProficiencyNetworking & Security
- Switching: Expert-level configuration and management of Cisco switching technology.
- Wireless: Advanced management of ExtremeCloud IQ wireless environments.
- CyberSecurity Training
- Firewall: Hands-on experience with Watchguard firewalls (upgrades, installation, management).
Systems & Servers
- Hardware: Extensive experience with Dell Server technology (specification, installation, maintenance).
- Windows Environment: Advanced proficiency with Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, and NPS.
- Identity: Management of Active Directory, including maintenance, upgrades, and Group Policy.
- Backup: Proficiency in managing legacy and modern backup solutions, specifically Backup Exec 25.x and LiveVault online backup systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in K–12 or higher education environments.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Basic administration of Cisco Call Manager/Unity.
