Position Summary
The Irrigation Installer / Service Technician is responsible for installing new irrigation systems, troubleshooting and repairing existing systems, and ensuring each project meets company quality standards and local code requirements. The role combines hands‐on field work with customer interaction, vendor coordination, and accurate documentation of all labor and materials used.
Key Responsibilities
- System Installation - Read and interpret irrigation plans and blueprints. Lay out, trench, and install pipe, valves, heads, drip lines, backflow devices, and control wiring.• Mount, wire, and program controllers and smart sensors. Pressure‐test and flush new systems; perform start‐up calibration and final walkthrough.
- Service & Repairs - Diagnose leaks, electrical faults, and coverage issues.• Replace heads, valves, controllers, flow sensors, pumps, and piping as needed.• Winterize systems and perform spring start‐ups per schedule.
- Customer Interaction - Coordinate access to control modules inside garages, basements, or utility rooms. Explain system functions and basic operating instructions to clients. Provide courteous on‐site communication and address immediate concerns.
- Material Procurement - Pick up materials from vendors; verify quantities and pricing. Maintain organized truck stock and report low inventory.
- Documentation & Reporting - Complete daily work orders in Jobber, recording labor hours, parts, and notes. Capture before/after photos and update as‐built drawings when modifications occur. Flag warranty or billable repairs for office staff.
- Safety & Compliance - Follow OSHA, company, and manufacturer safety guidelines (PPE, trench safety, etc). Ensure backflow prevention devices meet local plumbing codes.• Operate trenchers, mini‐skids, and hand tools safely.
Required Qualifications
- 1‐3 years’ experience installing and/or servicing residential or commercial irrigation systems.
- Working knowledge of low‐voltage wiring, hydraulics, and smart‐controller programming.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; able to drive company service vehicles and pull trailers.
- Ability to read site plans and use measuring devices (tape, wheel, laser level).
- Basic proficiency with mobile apps for time‐tracking, work orders, and inventory.
- Strong customer‐service skills and professional demeanor on client property.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, work outdoors in varied weather, and perform physically demanding tasks (digging, stooping, kneeling).
Work Environment & Schedule
- Typical schedule: Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional evenings/weekends for emergency calls.
- Majority of work performed outdoors on active construction or occupied residential sites.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly wage (DOE) with overtime after 40 hours.
- Paid holidays and PTO.
- Company‐sponsored continuing education and certification reimbursement; **requires pre-approval by management prior to taking course / certification. **
