The primary result expected from this position is to provide assistance to the Maintenance Lead in the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment while providing necessary support to the Operations group. This will include regular tool changes, general housekeeping, participation in the preventive and unscheduled maintenance programs, grounds-keeping, and various maintenance projects. The Maintenance Technician must communicate with the Maintenance Lead, co-workers, and supervisors to solve process and product problems and accurately record maintenance information. This position will require general knowledge and ability to perform minor tooling repairs and some general machining / fabrication work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Confers with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction
  • Disassembles machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs
  • Repairs, replaces, adjusts, and aligns components of machinery and equipment
  • Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs
  • Is intricately involved in all aspects of company PM program
  • Comfortably operates general tools and equipment in the shop including welders, lathe, mill, general power tools, etc.
  • Completes daily tool changes on machines.
  • Winter related shoveling as needed.
  • Assists with general building maintenance as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance on tooling and fixtures as required.
  • Assists with fabrication of materials related to specific projects as needed.

PREFERRED AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED is preferred

Experience and/or Training: Prior maintenance experience preferred, willing to train right individual.

Licenses/Certificates: Valid Driver’s license

Technology/Computer Equipment: Ability to utilize computer platforms to access work instructions

Communication: The ability to read, speak, and comprehend English is required

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • This position is required to constantly stand and walk
  • It is necessary for this position to frequently climb stairs throughout the day
  • Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, crouching, or reaching above the shoulders may be required
  • Frequent use of hands and wrists on both large and small items: e.g. screws, bolts, nuts to service the molds
  • Able to focus and work at a continuous pace for long periods of time
  • 15 to 25 lbs. frequent lifting
  • 20 to 50 lbs. occasional lifting
  • Manual dexterity is required to perform normal day to day functions
  • Must always demonstrate patience in order to successfully work through frustrating challenges and present oneself in a calm professional manner
  • Must have the ability to work with and around others
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Forklift and scissors lift certification
  • Comfortable working at heights over 10’ while practicing company safety policy

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The main working environment for this position is the standard manufacturing plant environment.

The plant will include exposure to heat and hot surfaces, cold, noise and odors. Personal protective equipment is required in appropriate areas. There may also be intermittent exposure to fumes, moving mechanical parts and tool vibration.
