Paralegal - Personal Injury
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to join our Personal Injury team. The Paralegal will support attorneys in all phases of personal injury litigation, from intake and discovery through trial preparation and resolution. The ideal candidate will be organized, proactive, and experienced in document review, litigation support, and court filings, helping to manage caseloads efficiently and ensuring deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage case files and maintain organized, up-to-date records for a portfolio of personal injury matters.
- Conduct thorough document review and organize discovery materials, exhibits, and evidence for hearings and trial.
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, complaints, demand letters, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including assembling exhibits, preparing witness binders, coordinating witnesses and experts, and creating trial notebooks and timelines.
- Coordinate and calendar deadlines, court appearances, depositions, hearings, and filings; ensure compliance with local rules and e-filing requirements.
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant statutes, case law, medical records, police reports, and other supporting documentation.
- Communicate with clients, medical providers, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel to obtain necessary information and updates, and to keep clients informed of case status.
- Draft correspondence and summaries, proofread filings for accuracy and completeness, and manage revisions per attorney direction.
- Support motion practice by preparing exhibits, compiling declarations, and assisting with research and drafting briefs as needed.
- Assist with contract review and preparation of settlement documents and release forms; coordinate signatures and distribution of executed agreements.
- Organize and produce document sets for disclosure or production; manage electronic document databases and ensure proper tagging, indexing, and Bates-stamping.
- Track expenses, prepare reports, and assist with billing and time entry related to case activities.
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate, Associates degree, or Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of paralegal experience in personal injury litigation or related civil litigation preferred.
- Strong experience with document review, discovery processes, e-discovery tools, and trial preparation.
- Proven ability to draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines effectively.
- Proficient legal research skills and familiarity with relevant statutes, case law, and court rules.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; professional client-facing manner.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and proofreading legal documents.
- Experience with case management software, document management systems, e-filing, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of calendar management, court filing procedures, and local civil rules.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced litigation environment, with strong problem-solving skills.
