Position Summary
The Bench Scientist II is responsible for executing laboratory-based experiments to support scientific research, product development, and technical investigations within the Vaccine Research and Development Analytical Development Group.
This role focuses on hands-on laboratory work (~75%) involving analytical and characterization techniques such as HPLC, gel electrophoresis, and spectroscopy. The position emphasizes routine testing, assay verification, and qualification studies using established methods (no method development required).
The scientist will contribute to data generation, ensure accurate documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support early-stage vaccine development.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine analytical testing to support vaccine development programs
- Prepare samples, operate analytical instruments, and analyze results
- Execute assays using established laboratory procedures (no modification required)
- Conduct HPLC-based assays as the primary analytical technique
- Perform additional techniques such as Gel electrophoresis, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy
- Document experiments and results in Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN)
- Enter and manage data in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)
- Draft and revise laboratory methods and reports under supervision
- Follow GLP/GCLP and internal quality standards
- Maintain lab operations, including: Buffer and reagent preparation, Equipment maintenance, Waste handling
- Communicate deviations, issues, or inconsistencies promptly
- Collaborate with a team of ~12 scientists to troubleshoot and interpret data
- Adhere strictly to SOPs and laboratory safety protocols
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail in all tasks
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in: Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related scientific field
- 1–4 years of relevant industry experience in an analytical laboratory
- Hands-on experience with HPLC systems (academic exposure alone is not sufficient)
- Experience with: Gel electrophoresis, Spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis or fluorescence)
- Familiarity with GLP/GCLP standards and laboratory practices
- Experience using: ELN systems, LIMS or similar data management tools
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures precisely
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical environments
- Experience working in regulated settings (GMP, GLP, GCLP)
- Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams
