Job Description:
The Compressor Operations Technician supports the commissioning, operation, inspection, and maintenance of conventional and high-pressure gas compression facilities. This role is hands-on and field-based, with an emphasis on learning compressor systems, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting safe and reliable facility operations. The position works closely with operations, maintenance, and contractors while developing technical expertise in gas compression systems and associated equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the commissioning and decommissioning of conventional and high-pressure gas compressors.
- Coordinate and support pressure testing activities and bring new compression units online.
- Inspect new compressor installations and facility expansions during construction phases.
- Perform final inspections and participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
- Learn and support daily gas compressor and compressor facility operations, including maintaining good housekeeping standards.
- Perform basic troubleshooting by identifying, diagnosing, and repairing or replacing equipment under guidance.
- Learn proper use of tools and equipment required for compressor operations and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date operational reports and documentation related to facility operations.
- Support on-call duties and travel to field locations as required.
- Interact daily with foremen, compressor operators, mechanics, lease operators, and contractors.
- Occasionally work alongside contractors during installation, maintenance, or repair activities.
- Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.
- Utilize technology and digital tools to support operational efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Minimum of approximately 2.5 years of mechanical, oilfield, or industrial-related experience.
- Prior experience with gas compression or gas lift operations preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn compressor systems and facility operations.
- Knowledge of ancillary compressor equipment (fuel gas skids, engines, motors, transformers, VFDs) preferred.
- Familiarity with automation and control systems related to gas compression is a plus.
- Ability to work safely in a field-based environment and follow operational procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multiple teams.
- Willingness to learn, troubleshoot, and develop technical skills in compressor operations.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Job Details:
Location: Midland, TX
Pay: Level I - 50-55/hr Level II - 80/hr Level III - 100/hr
Schedule: Monday-Friday, field visits as needed
