Role Summary
The Application Engineer is the technical front end for customer programstranslating requirements into manufacturable, cost-effective HMI solutions. Youll partner with Sales, Business Development, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations to scope, estimate, prototype, validate, and launch new project that meet performance, regulatory, and reliability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery: translate specifications into clear requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Architect solutions: component selection (sensors, controllers, optics, materials), stack-ups, interfaces, and environmental/EMC considerations.
- Lead Proposal Development: DFMs, block diagrams, risk registers, preliminary BOMs, cost/lead-time estimates, and SOW inputs.
- Own customer technical communication: lead reviews, resolve issues, manage changes/ECOs, and document decisions.
- Maintain documentation in CRM/ERP per QMS and configuration control.
Qualifications
Required
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 4+ years in applications, systems, or product engineering for electro-mechanical or display/HMI products.
- Working knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and basic EE principles (signal integrity, grounding, EMI).
- Experience with CAD (SolidWorks or similar), requirements management, and basic circuit/optics familiarity.
- Proven customer-facing communication and program support skills.
Preferred
- Experience with touch sensors, displays, backlights, optical bonding, coatings, and human-factors/usability.
- Familiarity with medical/industrial/aerospace standards (e.g., IEC 60601, IPC/WHMA-A-620, ISO 13485/9001, AS9100).

Work Conditions
- Occasional travel to customers/suppliers (15%).
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs; extended screen time; lab/prototype shop exposure with appropriate PPE.
