Job Description

The Controls Engineer supports the development, implementation, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for the packaging industry. This role focuses on PLC-based control systems, industrial robotics, machine vision applications, and fully integrated automated packaging solutions. The engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot, optimize, and deliver innovative automation solutions for customers across industries such as food and consumer products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs for automated machinery and packaging systems.
  • Configure and support Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation control platforms.
  • Create and maintain ladder logic and associated controls documentation for automation systems.
  • Integrate control systems with robotics, vision systems, and ancillary equipment.
  • Assist with system startup, testing, debugging, and validation activities for automated equipment.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and support FANUC robotic systems used in packaging and material handling applications.
  • Support machine vision applications used for product identification, inspection, and robotic guidance.
  • Optimize robotic and automation system performance to improve reliability, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop innovative automation and packaging solutions.
  • Participate in project design reviews and technical discussions to ensure robust control system design.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Service teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support equipment commissioning both internally and at customer sites, ensuring proper operation and performance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving field issues during installation and startup activities.
  • Ensure projects meet customer specifications, schedule requirements, and quality standards.
  • Provide commissioning and startup support at customer facilities and represent the engineering team on-site.
  • Diagnose and resolve controls-related issues in the field and provide timely technical support.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams during troubleshooting and project execution.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience programming PLC-based automation systems.
  • 5+ years of experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms.
  • Strong understanding of ladder logic programming for industrial automation.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, controls engineering, and automation systems.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting FANUC robotic systems.
  • Experience working with machine vision systems for identification, inspection, and robotic guidance.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot automated equipment and control systems in production environments.
  • Strong programming and troubleshooting skills in industrial automation contexts.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as required for commissioning and customer support.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external customers.

  • Background in robotics and automation for packaging, material handling, or related applications.
  • Experience working on highly innovative automation projects and custom equipment.

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and a focus on system reliability, efficiency, and performance optimization.

Work Environment

The role supports operations at multiple locations, including a site in Monroe, and requires the flexibility to work at more than one facility as needed. The environment centers on robotics and automation, with a focus on designing and building custom automated packaging, material handling, and vision-guided robotic systems. The work involves both office-based engineering tasks and hands-on activities on the shop floor and at customer sites, including commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting equipment. Projects emphasize increasing throughput, reducing labor dependence, improving consistency, and optimizing production lines. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Monroe, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Bonus target: 15% (80% of that is Quest performance and 20% is ProMach performance) 3 Weeks PTO (possible negotiation for 4 weeks) - Automatically earn 4 weeks after 5 years. 9 Holidays
