Position Overview: The Preventative Maintenance Technician is responsible performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:

  • Installs and maintains production machines and the plant facilities equipment.
  • Performs planned and unplanned maintenance of equipment to prevent mechanical failure.
  • Maintains all production and facility safety equipment.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance service.
  • Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests equipment, and makes adjustments.
  • Detects faulty operations, defective materials, and reports those and any unusual situations to appropriate supervisors.
  • Documents repairs in applicable reports, forms, and logs.
  • Responsible for keeping work areas clean and safe.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.
  • This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.


Skills, Knowledge & ExpertiseKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with basic hand tools and machinery setup.
  • Possesses effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Understands tools and principles involved in mechanical production settings.
  • Knowledge of packaging, milling, and material handling equipment.
  • Familiar with food safety, HACCP, and SQF programs.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and aerial work platforms.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate operational and safety information in English.
  • Demonstrates Respect, Teamwork, Accountability, and Determination.
  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to potential food allergens is or may be present.

Education and Experience:

  • 1 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing facility, specifically machine maintenance, AND
  • High school diploma or equivalent, OR
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to weld metals.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently requires the ability to climb ladders and stairways.
  • May be required to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds repeatedly throughout shift.
  • Position may require standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, bending, and kneeling.
  • Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Environment:

  • This position will perform work within all areas of the facility and may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and extreme difference in temperature.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
