Job Description
The Shop Support I – Wrapping role provides general support to manufacturing operations, with primary responsibility for wrapping finished products and assisting with basic shop activities. This position works under direct supervision and follows established safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general support to assembly, forming, welding, or machine operations.
- Inspect completed work for compliance with specifications.
- Purchase materials, parts, and supplies in accordance with established purchasing procedures.
- Perform finishing tasks such as scribing, trimming, sanding, polishing, drilling, punching, sizing, and deburring using hand and power tools (die grinders, band saws, chop saws, shears, grinders, polishers, belt sanders).
- Clean metal parts using methods such as hand-wiping, solvent washing, and chemical cleaning (certification may be required).
- Detect and report faulty operations or defects.
- Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and fixtures.
- Follow written instructions, sketches, and standard work procedures.
- Maintain safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- May assist in training other employees.
Skills & Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of abrasives, grits, and deburring techniques.
- Ability to read and understand safety procedures and mix ratios.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and drawings.
- Ability to perform basic shop mathematics.
- Willingness to learn machine tools and precision instruments.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Knows when to stop and ask for clarification.
Working Conditions
- Must safely operate equipment and wear required PPE, including safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, heat-resistant garments, and gloves as needed.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
