Location: Washington, DC (Onsite, Full-Time)
Clearance: Active Secret or Top Secret REQUIRED (multiple mentions throughout for visibility + filtering)
Schedule: 9/80 Work Schedule (Every Other Friday Off)
Travel: ~30% for onboarding, integration, and cross-site collaboration
Relocation: Available
About the Opportunity:
A leading U.S.-based aerospace, defense, and cyber-technology innovator is seeking a Senior RUST Software Engineer with an Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance to support the next generation of mission-critical, embedded, and cyber-resilient systems.
This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role for an expert-level RUST developer who can lead adoption, guide technical strategy, and modernize embedded architectures. You will operate as a key engineering authority on a Scrum team, influencing coding standards, memory-safe practices, and conversions from legacy C/C++ into RUST.
This environment is onsite, secure, collaborative, and fast-moving, designed for senior engineers who thrive on solving complex technical challenges with national-security importance.
Role Highlights:

Lead the adoption, deployment, and scaling of RUST across embedded development teams.

Drive conversion of legacy C/C++ codebases into RUST with memory-safe best practices.

Partner with cross-functional engineering teams on architecture, integration, and system design.

Support all phases of the SDLC including requirements, design, implementation, H/S integration, and testing.

Conduct complex root-cause analysis and independently create robust engineering solutions.

Mentor junior engineers, influence standards, and establish best practices.

Develop device drivers, BSPs, and embedded real-time OS components (VxWorks, Integrity, Linux).

Execute modeling, prototyping, test planning, defect tracking, and technical documentation.

Work onsite in a secure environment with occasional travel to other U.S. engineering locations.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered, candidates must meet all requirements below:
️ Clearance Requirements (High Priority)

Active Secret clearance (minimum required)

Top Secret preferred (referenced repeatedly for ranking visibility)

Must be U.S. Citizen and eligible for program-specific access.
Technical Requirements:
-
12+ years of experience (or 16+ years without a degree) in software engineering, embedded systems, or computer engineering.

5+ years of hands-on RUST development experience for production or mission-critical systems.
-
Deep expertise with C/C++, embedded real-time OS (RTOS), and object-oriented design.
-
Proven experience guiding software architecture, RUST adoption, and memory-safe design patterns.

Strong SDLC experience across requirements, design, implementation, integration, and test.
-
Ability to support a 100% onsite role in a secure facility.
Preferred Skills:
-
Embedded RUST development for real-time or safety-critical systems
-
Migration and architecture of C/C++ systems into RUST
-
UML modeling tools (Magic Draw, Cameo, Rhapsody)
-
Experience with cryptography, cyber, IA controls, or secure communications
-
Experience with Type 1, DO-178, or similar SW certification frameworks
-
Experience developing device drivers or Board Support Packages

Strong communication skills and ability to drive technical consensus
