Job Description
Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with an automotive innovation organization, is seeking a skilled Prototype Trim Technician – Seat Laboratory. This role is responsible for cutting and sewing seat trim materials, assembling seat components, and supporting full prototype seat builds from concept through completion.
Job Duties
- Interpret patterns, work instructions, and digital layouts to prepare seat trim components
- Cut fabric, leather, vinyl, and related materials using manual and automated tools
- Inspect materials for defects, ensuring proper grain, orientation, and color alignment
- Operate industrial sewing machines to construct trim covers and decorative features
- Apply foam, scrim, and reinforcements per build specifications
- Install trim covers onto seat assemblies including cushions, backs, and headrests
- Assemble seat components such as frames, foam pads, plastics, and hardware
- Perform quality checks to verify fit, finish, and functional operation of completed seats
Skills & Experience
Required
- 2+ years of experience in seat trim sewing, upholstery, or related manufacturing
- Proficiency operating industrial sewing machines (single-needle, double-needle, overlock, walking foot)
- Experience cutting and sewing complex trim patterns to tight tolerances
- Ability to read and interpret patterns, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Experience assembling full seat systems or upholstered products from components
- Familiarity with material handling including leather, vinyl, and fabric
Desired
- Experience with pattern or nesting software (e.g., Optitex or similar)
- Familiarity with HMI interfaces for work orders and production tracking
- Experience using cutting, skiving, binding, and serging equipment
- Knowledge of automotive interior systems and seat functionality
- Exposure to prototype builds or low-volume production environments
- Experience working with quality inspection standards and documentation systems
