Title: Defect Engineering Manager

Location: Lansing, MI

Summary:

This is a continuous improvement engineering part leader position working in our li-ion battery cell manufacturing clean room. The purpose of this role is to reduce battery cell defects caused by contamination – through equipment & procedural improvements. There is also an emphasis on being a catalyst of change to drive the employee culture to focus on this aspect of quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and communicate KPI metrics to team member to ensure goals are being reached and provide improvements where needed
  • Periodically train production team members on best practices and process changes
  • Lead and develop all team members for career growth and retention
  • Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of team members
  • Collaborate with other teams (e.g. Production, Quality, etc) to resolve internal & external quality issues
  • Ability to problem-solve and identify the best solution in a timely manner by utilizing existing knowledge and experience and by utilizing the help of other team members

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and effectiveness in accomplishing goals
  • Ability to manage workload while contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Motivated & passionate individual, with a strong desire to learn the technical details of the battery cell manufacturing process

Experience:

  • 7 to 10+ years of work-related experience
  • 3 to 6+ years of experience leading a team and managing processes

Skills:

  • Comfort around higher management
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and make sound decisions
  • Effective workflow and process management
  • Planning skills and effective communication of priorities
  • Delegation and directing teams to meet goals
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support entire production team
