Assistant Retail Baker

Job Summary: Gateaux Bakery, established in 1999, is nestled on the 11th block of Speer Blvd, right in the heart of The Golden Triangle Neighborhood. We are situated between Cherry Creek and Downtown Denver. An Assistant Retail Baker at Gateaux is responsible for handling baked items, in their second phase of creation, by torting, filling, icing and storing. The Assistant Retail Baker will collaborate with the Retail Baker to coordinate and participate in execution of task list for items prepared daily, for each week. We prepare items for our retail storefront, as well as seasonal contract work. Gateaux Bakery offers premium quality cakes, petit fours, pastries and cookies, in a production setting, with hospitality at the forefront of our mission. Responsibilities: To assist the Retail Baker in getting baked items moving forward to prep phase from baking phase. Light baking and garnish duties, light sanitation duties and light customer service assistance. Assistance in counting and boxing pastries for seasonal contract accounts. Assistance in cutting/wrapping bars and breads.

Production: Torte, fill, and crumb coat various cakes. Prep/build petit four bases, roll, and dip cookies, bake and glaze/garnish breakfast pastries for storefront. Prepare, fill, and dip eclairs. Prepare and garnish fresh fruit items. Light customer service from 7:30am – 9am. Wash, rinse, sanitize cake pans, mixing bowls and smallware, assisting the Retail Baker in completing daily task list.

Maintenance: Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace, compliant with food safety, sanitation, and local health regulations.

Inventory: Assist with ordering and receiving supplies.

Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a commercial baking kitchen. Baking and Pastry Arts diploma preferred but not required.

Skills and Physical Requirements: Capable of operating commercial equipment and machinery. Basic understanding of mixing and baking methods, as well as dough and batter preparations for cookies, brownies, and pate choux. Basic understanding of cake torting and filling. This is a standing work position, with a requirement of lifting ingredients weighing up to 50 lbs.

Certifications: ServSafe Certified

Pay Rate and Schedule: $20/hourly rate Tuesday through Saturday 6am-2:30pm Sundays and Mondays: OFF
