General Superintendent

Job Description

The General Superintendent will serve as a key link between field operations, project management, and company leadership. This individual will be responsible for ensuring projects are properly staffed and executed safely, efficiently, and to the company's standards for quality, schedule, and client service.

The ideal candidate is a strong field leader who has come up through the superintendent ranks, understands ground-up construction from sitework through turnover, and has successfully managed Superintendents across multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities

\n

• Provide leadership, oversight, and mentorship to approximately 17 Superintendents across multiple active projects.

\n

• Oversee field execution of a diverse ground-up construction portfolio from preconstruction and mobilization through project completion and turnover.

\n

• Assign and coordinate Superintendents based on project requirements, schedules, workload, and individual strengths.

\n

• Regularly visit job sites to evaluate progress, safety, quality, manpower, scheduling, logistics, and overall field performance.

\n

• Partner with Project Executives, Project Managers, and company leadership to identify and resolve project challenges before they affect schedule, budget, or client relationships.

\n

• Hold Superintendents accountable for project schedules, subcontractor coordination, site logistics, quality control, safety, documentation, and closeout.

\n

• Assist field teams with developing and maintaining short-term and master construction schedules.

\n

• Provide hands-on support and problem-solving when projects encounter difficult field conditions, subcontractor issues, schedule challenges, or coordination problems.

\n

• Establish consistent field operating standards and best practices across projects.

\n

• Mentor and develop Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents while helping identify future field leaders.

\n

• Participate in constructability reviews, preconstruction planning, project turnover meetings, and lessons-learned discussions.

\n

• Monitor subcontractor performance and help ensure adequate manpower and resources are available to maintain project schedules.

\n

• Reinforce a strong safety culture and ensure field teams consistently follow company and project safety requirements.

\n

• Maintain strong communication among field teams, office leadership, owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners.

\n

• Help drive projects through punch list, inspections, commissioning, closeout, and successful owner turnover.

\n

Qualifications

\n

\n
• Extensive commercial construction experience with a strong emphasis on ground-up projects.

\n

• Previous experience as a Senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, or comparable senior field leadership position.

\n

• Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple Superintendents and multiple concurrent projects.

\n

• Strong knowledge of the complete construction process, including site development, foundations, structure, building envelope, MEP systems, interiors, commissioning, and closeout.

\n

• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and technical construction documents.

\n

• Strong understanding of scheduling, sequencing, subcontractor management, site logistics, quality control, and construction safety.

\n

• Proven ability to coach, mentor, and hold field leaders accountable.

\n

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

\n

• Ability to balance the needs of multiple projects while maintaining visibility and leadership in the field.

\n

• Strong relationship-building skills with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
