Writer, Trends, 2254-1The Publishing team is responsible for editorial content across our site, Queue, Podcasts, and press notes. This role will primarily support the official companion site which helps fans to find and fuel their fandom for the TV shows and movies they love.We’re looking for a contract Writer to support our Trends content. This is a three-month contract. You’ll be responsible for writing quick-turnaround articles in unique and branded voice about topics and titles that are trending, or anticipated to have traction, on the site, product, search, email, and social.We are seeking a highly self-motivated and experienced strategic editorial contributor with swift, strong judgment and exceptional writing/editing skills to execute several stories each week. This person will have a demonstrable passion for entertainment and a proven understanding of the fundamentals of storytelling, including structure, grammar rules and when to break them, and familiarity with SEO best practices. The candidate will report into the Reactive, Licensed, & Trends program lead.Responsibilities:

  • Swiftly write daily short-form articles that are publish-ready and capture the interests of our intended audiences, including but not limited to news beats, episode guides, and recommendations
  • Ensure content meets deadlines and is published according to best practices and standards, promoting creatively without editorializing
  • Leverage SEO data and research insights to ensure that all elements of the content are packaged cohesively, including headlines and metadata
  • Maintain high organization and flexibility, staying connected with ongoing work and effortlessly balancing urgent and long-term priorities
  • With minimal oversight, deliver clear, compelling copy about various content types and genres from the catalog under tight deadlines
  • Inform internal and external stakeholders about the most important elements of each title
  • Collaborate effectively with others and perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Apply learnings from experimental editorial experiences in a constant and iterative manner
  • With an open mind and flexibility, participate in recalibration to refine ongoing editorial projects with stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • A fast, capable writer-editor who picks up easily on style guides, who has extensive knowledge of writing principles, content structure, and tone
  • Comfortable with writing in a variety of formats, both short- and long-form
  • An undeniable interest in media and entertainment; this candidate is immersed in pop culture trends, film and TV show buzz, and what’s in the zeitgeist
  • Strong editorial, journalistic, and strategic judgment, and understanding of best practices for search-driven stories
  • Highly collaborative editorial partner who’s overly comfortable with their work being edited and revised
  • Mastery of AP style and confident ability to break those rules when needed
  • Exceptional ability in consumer-focused editing and copywriting
  • Excellent self-starter with a high level of organizational and time-management skills
  • Independent working style, self-motivated, and curious
  • Understanding of SEO optimization
  • Obsessive attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Comfortable with kind-but-candid feedback
  • Comfortable working with limited business context and evolving guidelines

Pay Rate Range:

  • $55-65/hr.
