Stormwater Maintenance Worker II is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Teamsters, Local 58 and the City of Ridgefield. This is a 40-hour per week job with several possible schedules: Monday through Friday 7AM-3:30PM; Monday through Thursday 6:30AM to 5PM or a 9/80 flex schedule.



POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the general direction of the Utilities Supervisor, this position performs skilled maintenance activities and uses specialized equipment in the construction, maintenance, cleaning and repair of stormwater systems. As part of a maintenance crew, Stormwater Maintenance Worker II performs the following duties:

  • Maintains the stormwater infrastructure and handles the stormwater runoff from all sources that contribute to the system.
  • Sweeps city streets in a street sweeper truck.
  • Performs regular inspections of new and existing infrastructure for proper flow, function and integrity, including catch basins, manholes, control structures, vaults, pipelines, storm lines, culverts, under drains, dredge ditches, outfalls, ponds, creeks and stream beds, bioswales, sediment traps, diversion structures, and advance storm filters.
  • Mows, trims and performs vegetation management within and around storm facilities including ponds, swales and rights-of-way.
  • Repairs failing catch basin, inlets, outfalls and stormwater piping along with erosion control issues from failing sites.
  • Operates a wide variety of medium to heavy vehicles and equipment including mowers, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, vactor equipment, jetter equipment, etc.
  • Provide courteous and profession customer services, provide services in a timely manner and respond to customer questions and feedback calmly and effectively.
  • May be required to be in an on-call rotation and work overtime hours as needed after regularly scheduled work hours or on scheduled days off.
  • Will be required to cross-train in the water department and provide support to the water department with distribution, production, and treatment maintenance and repairs as needed.

This position includes heavy work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently; visual ability to see clearly at close and far distances, identify and distinguish colors; and physical abilities such as walking, reaching, balancing, crawling, etc.

Stormwater Maintenance Worker II is the journey level in a job classification series: for an experienced worker, not a trainee, who understands the complexity of the work and has the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties with limited supervision at the time of hire.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities may be considered. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience: Two years of experience in public works maintenance. Stormwater experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of methods and techniques and repair related to the area of stormwater systems and operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in stormwater maintenance and repair. Ability to apply good judgment and practical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve unusual or irregular problems and defects within stormwater and drainage areas. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to follow policies and regulations to ensure tasks and equipment are operated safely and effectively.
  4. Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid drivers license and insurable driving record.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Commercial Drivers License (Class B) with Air Brake Endorsement at time of hire.
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications and/or training within six months of employment: CDL Tanker Endorsement, Industrial First Aid/CPR Card, Flagging and Traffic Control Card and a Pesticide License.
  • Ability to obtain the following training within one year of employment:
    Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Fire Extinguisher and Evacuation, Trenching and Shoring, and CESCL certification.
