Job Description

Job DescriptionCareer Renew is recruiting for one of its clients a Staff Engineer - AI - this is an onsite role in San Francisco. Salary range: 220-380K USD base plus benefits plus equity.

We replace manual coordination work at billion-dollar enterprises.

We deploy production agents into the tools you already run (Salesforce, NetSuite, ServiceNow, Workday) to close the work that breaks off-the-shelf automation: exception handling, cross-system reconciliation, judgment-based routing, Tier-2 tickets and claims, month-end close, audit-grade compliance logic.

What we ship:

Autonomous Financial Operations. Invoice processing, revenue reconciliation, month-end close, variance analysis, ledger updates with CFO-grade audit trails.

Resolution Agents. Read/write across the full stack (billing, auth, CRM, warehouse) to close Tier-2 tickets and claims without human intervention.

Forensic Data Pipelines. Messy PDFs, call logs, and emails converted into governed datasets with role-based access and observability.

Compliance Copilots. Policy-bound tools operating inside SOC 2, HIPAA, and bespoke regulatory environments. Every action logged, every action reversible.

How it runs: The audit is non-negotiable. We map how operations actually move, not the SOP version. Single pane of glass. AI should mean less software to manage, not more. Agents run inside your stack, not on top of it. You own everything we configure for you. Your data, your code, your business rules. We retain the platform.

The Staff Engineer owns the technical direction of the entire platform. You design the architecture, set the engineering standards, and make the build-vs-buy decisions that determine whether this company becomes a generational platform or stays a services business. This is not a senior IC seat inside someone else's org — you are the person defining the system.

We're building a platform that turns operational audit artifacts into autonomous agent orchestration. Every client deployment compounds the product. You lead the technical work that makes that compounding real — from the agent framework and orchestration layer to the infrastructure that scales us from 1:1 to 1:many. This role has a direct path to CTO with corresponding equity restructuring.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Own the Technical Architecture Design and build the core platform: agent orchestration, process mining infrastructure, diagnostic pipelines, and the control plane that turns audit outputs into deployed AI systems. You make the build-vs-buy decisions, own the system design, and set the technical bar.

  • Build Production AI Systems at Scale Architect compound AI systems — multi-step agents, retrieval pipelines, evaluation frameworks, human-in-the-loop governance — that run reliably inside Fortune 5000 environments. These systems handle real operational workflows with real consequences.

  • Ship Fast, Iterate Faster You set the pace. We ship to production weekly, not quarterly. You drive engineering velocity, cut scope ruthlessly, and keep the team focused on what matters. Analysis paralysis kills startups — you don't let it happen.

  • Build the Engineering Organization Recruit, mentor, and lead engineers. Set code review standards, establish engineering processes, and build a team that can scale from 5 to 50. You hire people who are better than you at specific things and give them room to operate.

  • Bridge Research and Production Stay current on the frontier — foundation models, agent frameworks, inference optimization, tool use, long-context reasoning — and translate what's useful into production systems. You know the difference between a research demo and something that works at enterprise scale.

Requirements:6+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years spent in a staff, principal, or founding engineer role. (Mandatory)Has led the development and implementation of an LLM-powered product or feature end to end (Mandatory)Startup experience during a period of high growth (preferred), or has owned a major technical initiative on a Big Tech team.(Mandatory)Experience working directly with enterprise customers (Nice-to-have)Engineering leadership or team management experience (Nice-to-have)Expertise in designing complex, scalable AI systems (Mandatory)Proficient in using AI tools for coding and prompting. (Mandatory)Deep infrastructure experience (Kubernetes, distributed systems) (Nice-to-have)Strong communicator to present work and engage with enterprise clients (20–30% of the role is client-facing) (Mandatory)Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and lead engineers (MandatoryWhy you should join us

We build production-grade AI infrastructure for complex enterprise workflows that break standard automation tools. We solve the messy edge cases and compliance-heavy logic that generic chatbots simply cannot handle.

Join us to define the technical architecture for a platform that turns audit artifacts into autonomous agent orchestration. You'll work with ex-Meta and AWS engineers to build systems that scale across Fortune 5000 environments.

This is a Founding Engineer role with a direct path to CTO. You'll own the technical vision, set engineering standards, and enjoy a compensation package of $220K–$380K plus equity.
