Title: In-House Real Estate Attorney – Commercial Transactions
Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid Schedule)
About the Role
Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced Real Estate Attorney to join a nationally recognized company with a strong presence in the commercial real estate and title industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who enjoys hands-on transactional work and is looking to transition to (or continue) an in-house role that offers both substantive work and true work-life balance.
In this role, you’ll be part of a collaborative, business-oriented legal team that plays a key part in managing and closing complex commercial real estate transactions—without the pressure of billable hours.
Key Responsibilities

Advise on commercial real estate transactions, including title review, underwriting, and related documentation.

Identify and resolve complex title, survey, and transactional issues.

Draft, review, and interpret a variety of legal documents, including purchase agreements, leases, easements, and loan documents.

Partner with internal teams and external parties to ensure efficient and compliant closings.

Provide practical, business-focused legal advice that supports company initiatives and mitigates risk.
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the U.S.

3–8 years of experience in commercial real estate law, ideally with exposure to title, underwriting, or transactional matters.

Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.

A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively across departments.
Compensation & Structure

Base Salary: $130,000–$150,000 (commensurate with experience).

Schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., approximately 40 hours per week.

Hybrid Flexibility: A few in-office days per week required.
