Location: Los Alamos, NM | 100% Onsite (TA-55 and surrounding areas)

Compensation: $96 - $102/hr

Openings: Up to 2 positions, one Electrical and one Civil/Structural

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required

Clearance: DOE Q Clearance required, Human Reliability Program (HRP) enrollment required

About the Role

LANL's Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team is seeking up to two Senior Design Engineers, one in Electrical Engineering and one in Civil/Structural Engineering, to support facility design, operation, and maintenance at and around TA-55. You will apply broad and diversified engineering knowledge to complex analyses, conventional and unique design work, and inter-disciplinary coordination. This is a senior position: you'll work independently and as part of a team, and you may lead projects and supervise the work of others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and lead activities within your engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance
  • Apply broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses
  • Perform conventional and unique design and analysis within your discipline
  • Perform all aspects of engineering operations work and coordinate inter-disciplinary activities
  • Identify system integration activities within and across engineering disciplines
  • Facilitate design package development and produce common engineering design document deliverables
  • Provide construction and project support, and integrate construction and project activities
  • Lead projects and supervise the work of others as assigned
  • Utilize engineering technology to accomplish work, and identify and manage work process improvements to meet customer needs

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 9 years of practical work experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities outlined above
  • An advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired
  • May be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities

Top Skills & Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to your engineering discipline
  • Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, and similar)
  • Extensive prior experience facilitating design package development
  • Senior-level understanding of common engineering design document deliverables
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to lead projects and supervise the work of others

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to receive and hold a DOE Q Clearance and to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced engineering or technical degree
  • Experience in the use of common computer-aided drafting or mark-up software
  • A DOE Q or L clearance currently held or held within the past 2 years
  • Prior design engineering experience at a DOE or NNSA nuclear facility

Mandatory Requirements - Read Before Applying

  • Minimum 9 years of practical, relevant engineering design experience required
  • S. Citizenship required, must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance and enroll in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
