Job Description:
The Backup Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of backup systems and associated technologies at data centers and at property sites. This role ensures that data backups are performed accurately and efficiently, and that all data protection processes are in compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices. The Backup Administrator will work closely with IT staff and other stakeholders to implement and manage effective backup and recovery solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Backup Management:
- Configure, manage, and maintain backup systems and software.
- Monitor backup jobs, identify issues, and ensure successful completion.
- Schedule and run backup jobs according to established policies.
Data Recovery:
- Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans.
- Perform data restores as needed for users and systems.
- Verify the integrity of backup data through regular test restores.
System Administration:
- Install and upgrade backup software and hardware.
- Maintain backup servers, storage devices, and related infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve backup and recovery issues.
Policy and Procedure:
- Develop and document backup and recovery policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain detailed logs and records of backup activities.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect backup data.
- Ensure adherence to data retention policies and legal requirements.
- Conduct regular audits to verify compliance and effectiveness.
Support and Collaboration:
- Provide technical support and guidance to IT staff at SHRSS and at properties regarding backup solutions.
- Collaborate with property IT teams to ensure seamless integration of backup systems and delegation of backup restore capabilities to property IT staff.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience:
- Experience in a backup administration or related IT role.
- Hands-on experience with backup software and technologies (Veeam, VMWare SRM, and snapshots).
- Other Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Windows, Linux, and VMWare server environments.
- Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS, DAS).
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
- Knowledge of cloud backup solutions and services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Veeam, VMware, Microsoft, or CompTIA Storage+ are a plus.
