THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION WITHOUT BENEFITS.
POSITION AUTHORITY:
Performs duties under supervision of parks division foreman or manager. May be placed in supervisory position over other groundspersons on a job-to-job basis; will supervise temporary maintenance employees as necessary.
JOB SUMMARY:
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in a variety of parks and recreation maintenance and construction tasks.
Examples of work performed: works in parks construction or maintenance projects such as mowing, weed? eating, mulching, maintaining athletic fields, installing and repairing playground and park equipment, painting and repairing equipment, etc; performs work of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature when necessary; inspects equipment and performs routine maintenance on a regular basis, operates light and heavy equipment such as tractor, mower, bush hog, backhoe and dump truck. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of tools and equipment to be used in performance of duties
Ability to operate light motor vehicle and mowing equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or equivalent is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
May require a Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of employment, depending on assigned division.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical:
Lift and carry up to 100 lbs. repetitively. Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Move across uneven terrain, slopes, and wet or muddy areas. Operate and service various tools and equipment, including mowers, tractors, backhoes, and dump trucks.
Environmental:
Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Work around loud machinery, dust, dirt, and other airborne debris.
