JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: District Sales Manager
Reports to: Director of Sales
Job Summary
The District Sales Manager is responsible for leading and coaching a team of Sales Representatives to meet and exceed company sales, distribution, and profitability targets. This role plays a key leadership position in the sales organization, focusing on strategic planning, talent development, and execution of sales initiatives within an assigned district. The District Manager ensures alignment with company standards and fosters strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Sales Leadership and Performance Management
- Lead and manage a team of Sales Representatives to execute business plans, achieve volume goals, and expand product distribution.
- Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and team meetings to drive performance, provide feedback, and align efforts with company objectives.
- Collaborate with team members to define account targets, optimize route strategies, and improve overall sales execution.
- Monitor sales performance using KPIs and sales analytics; create and implement action plans for underperforming areas.
- Talent Management and Training
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new sales personnel in partnership with HR.
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and develop performance enhancement plans.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to enhance individual and team capabilities.
- Customer and Supplier Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts in the territory.
- Identify new sales opportunities, conduct business reviews, and lead execution of customer-focused strategies.
- Manage supplier visits, surveys, and ride-withs in collaboration with Business Managers and other stakeholders.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Approve and review timesheets for all direct reports in a timely manner and in accordance with payroll deadlines.
- Ensure accurate submission of payroll-related data including incentives, bonuses, and commissions.
- Promptly report workplace incidents or injuries to HR and immediate supervisors, no later than the end of the scheduled shift.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Operational Excellence
- Plan and execute sales programs, promotions, and initiatives across the district.
- Manage open territories, resolve customer complaints, and implement territory transitions as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, competitor activities, and category growth strategies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises a team of Sales Representatives.
- Responsible for performance management, development, and disciplinary actions in coordination with HR.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, account management, or related field, including 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in the beverage alcohol industry (beer, wine, and spirits) is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of the three-tier distribution system.
- Proven ability to lead sales teams and exceed sales and distribution goals.
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/sales tracking systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Must meet company vehicle safety requirements, if applicable.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel regularly within assigned territory, including frequent field visits, customer meetings, and supplier ride-alongs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based with regular travel to customer accounts, company facilities, and meetings.
- May involve exposure to warehouse or retail environments and occasional participation in special events outside of regular business hours.
