Job Title: Lead Engineer
Location: 24801 Capital Blvd., Clinton Township, MI 48036
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for organizing highly complex activities related to the release and ongoing maintenance of seating programs.
- Provide guidance and direction to project team members, engineering support staff, and corporate resources used in any engineering work.
- Oversee engineering programs, all engineering deliverables, and project budgets.
- Ensure product performance targets, customer expectations, and compliance to regulatory & internal specifications are met.
- Manage multiple, concurrent engineering projects while ensuring their success in meeting their respective objectives.
- Create and implement approved engineering project budgets and monitor performance.
- Work with clients to finalize engineering project specifications.
- Negotiate with 3rd party engineering suppliers.
- Create engineering plans and present status updates to project stakeholders and financiers.
- Lead design reviews and review/approve proposed engineering designs and subsequent product/process enhancements or changes.
- Prepare Engineering Project Quotation for internal resources and external engineering expenses, considering customer expectations, scope of work, and internal performance requirements (one time project costs).
- Ensure utilization of APQP engineering tools such as DVP&R, DFMEA and adherence to program management phases and milestones.
- Create training plans and implement monitoring to ensure engineering staff meet skills set requirements.
- Oversee computer aided design requirements, including software and hardware.
- Ensure Administration tasks conform to work instructions and company guidelines: part number, BOM, drawing archives, test reporting, specifications, design methods, and patents.
- Ensure ERP system input and maintenance conforms to work instructions and guidelines: SAP methods, processes, standards, and techniques regarding Materials, BOMs, Drawings, Engineering Changes, Work Orders, etc.
- Prepare monthly performance reporting of key measurable and department targets.
- Work on means and methods to maintain brand image.
- Up to 10% travel within U.S. required.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or foreign educational equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering field.
- In addition to degree, must have 4 years of experience in each of the following:
- Working as a Mechanical or Industrial Engineer in the automotive industry (or a closely related industry);
- Developing products utilizing APQP, PPAP, VA/VE, and GD
- Designing products utilizing DVP&R, DFMEA, and DFM/A;
- Creating 3D models using Catia V5 or similar CAD software;
- Analytic problem-solving using 8-D; and
- Working within the guidelines of QS-9000 and/or ISO TS-16949.
