Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in supporting the health and safety of our community by maintaining the physical spaces where healing and support occurs. This position ensures that all agency-owned and leased properties, including residential cottages - are safe, functional, and welcoming for clients, staff, and visitors. The technician works collaboratively with staff and vendors and approaches all tasks with a trauma-informed lens, recognizing the importance of physical environments in promoting well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and emergency repairs across agency properties, including residential cottages, in alignment with trauma-informed care principles (e.g., minimizing disruption, communicating clearly, respecting privacy).
- Conduct regular maintenance tasks such as landscaping, painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
- Assemble and set up office furniture and equipment in a respectful and client-sensitive manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of outdoor areas, including trash removal and vegetation trimming.
- Complete minor construction projects (e.g., shed building, cabinet installation) when appropriate and within skillset.
- Purchase and transport supplies and equipment needed for maintenance tasks.
- Document maintenance work as needed, including photos for grant compliance, with attention to confidentiality and dignity.
- Respond to work orders promptly and communicate clearly with staff about timelines and expectations.
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with supervisor and team members to coordinate tasks and prioritize needs.
- Identify and report larger repair needs (e.g., roofing, parking lots) and recommend outsourcing when tasks exceed personal expertise.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Inspect buildings and systems regularly to identify potential issues early.
- Support a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion in all physical spaces.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in maintenance, construction, or related trades.
A valid Oregon driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance are required.
Skills & Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Awareness of personal skill limits and willingness to seek external support when needed.
- Commitment to trauma-informed practices and respectful communication.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- This position involves manual labor including walking, standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing, and moving equipment.
- Travel between agency sites and to local vendors is required.
- Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for urgent repairs or special projects.
