About Smart City Networks
Smart City Networks is the nation’s leading provider of event telecommunications and technology services for convention centers and hospitality venues. We design, deploy, and operate mission-critical wireless networks that power the country’s largest trade shows, conventions, and live events.
Position Summary
The Wireless Architect is the company’s technical authority on all things wireless. This role owns the end-to-end design, validation, and optimization of high-density, high-reliability Wi-Fi and private wireless solutions for convention centers, arenas, temporary event overlays, and hospitality venues. You will translate demanding client and event requirements into predictable, scalable, and secure wireless architectures that perform flawlessly under extreme user density and interference conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead predictive modeling, on‑site RF surveys, and post‑deployment validation for large‑venue and temporary event Wi‑Fi deployments (typically 10,000–15,000+ concurrent users).
- Design and document enterprise‑grade wireless architectures using Ekahau, Cisco, Aruba, and Juniper Mist ecosystems.
- Specify and validate access‑point placement, channel/reuse plans, RF power settings, roaming behavior, capacity planning, and spectrum management.
- Architect solutions using modern Wi‑Fi standards (Wi‑Fi 6/6E/7) and IoT/low‑power wireless technologies.
- Collaborate with sales and project teams to scope, propose, and defend wireless solutions in RFPs and client presentations.
- Perform interference analysis and mitigation in challenging RF environments (steel/concrete structures, temporary overlays, outdoor expositions).
- Establish and maintain Smart City’s wireless design standards, reusable component libraries, and best‑practice documentation.
- Serve as Tier‑4 escalation for wireless‑related incidents during live events.
- Evaluate emerging wireless technologies (Wi‑Fi 7, 6 GHz expansion, OpenRoaming, automated RF management, AI‑driven optimization) and pilot new capabilities.
- Mentor network engineers and wireless administrators; deliver internal training on advanced wireless topics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience (Master’s a plus).
- 7+ years of hands on wireless network design and implementation experience.
- Expert level knowledge of 802.11 standards, RF propagation, antenna theory, and high density Wi Fi design.
- Proven experience designing and supporting wireless networks in large public venues (convention centers, stadiums, arenas, trade shows, etc.).
- Proficiency with Ekahau Site Survey (ECSE certification strongly preferred), Hamina, or equivalent predictive design tools.
- Current wireless certifications required, at least TWO of the following:
- CWNP: CWDP, CWAP, or CWSP
- Ekahau ECSE: Design, Troubleshooting, or Advanced
- Cisco CCNP Wireless: WLCOR & WLSI or WLSD
- Aruba or Juniper Mist Professional level certifications
- Deep experience with at least two major enterprise wireless platforms (Cisco, Aruba/HPE, Juniper Mist).
- Strong understanding of wired infrastructure supporting high performance Wi Fi (multigigabit switching, QoS, overlay tunneling).
- Excellent diagramming skills (Visio, Lucidchart) and ability to produce client ready deliverables.
- Outstanding communication skills; able to explain complex RF concepts to non technical stakeholders and executives.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience with temporary/event‑overlay wireless networks (Super Bowl, CES, Comic‑Con, etc.).
- Background in network automation/scripting (Python, Ansible) for wireless management.
- Knowledge of wireless security (WPA3‑Enterprise, rogue AP detection, 802.1X).
