Job Description

Engage in daily greenhouse plant care, including seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and seed handling for corn, soybean, wheat, and other crops. You will also handle plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis and assist with experiments by collecting data and maintaining records. Routine greenhouse sanitation tasks are part of the role, such as discarding regulated material, destroying waste, and cleaning pots and rooms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care for greenhouse plants, including seeding, pollinating, and transplanting.
  • Manage watering, harvesting, and seed handling for various crops.
  • Punch or cut small samples of plant tissue and deliver them for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper sample identity and storage conditions.
  • Assist with experiments by collecting data and maintaining precise records.
  • Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks, including discarding regulated material and cleaning pots and containers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Genetics, or Agronomy is preferred.

Work Environment

Work in a controlled greenhouse environment, typically 80 degrees and humid in the winter, warmer in the summer. The role requires standing and sitting for long periods and lifting up to 30 lbs. Work hours are 7:30 AM-4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with rotational weekend work approximately every 6th weekend. Training is provided for 4-6 weeks. The team consists of 52 people, with daily interaction with 30-40 team members.

This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
