Job Summary:

As the Lineman, you will ultimately be responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing aerial and underground telecommunications infrastructure while ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. You will support construction, maintenance, emergency restoration, and outage response activities while delivering reliable network infrastructure. As the Lineman, your customers are telecommunications providers, construction teams, and end users, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality workmanship, safety, and dependable field execution.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Repair and maintain aerial and underground telecommunications cable systems, including lashing, strand replacement, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial-to-underground conversions, and emergency repairs.
  • Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, specifications, and cut sheets to determine work methods and sequencing.
  • Perform construction activities including digging holes, climbing utility poles, setting poles and anchors, pulling and stringing cable, and installing underground conduit.
  • Operate compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, aerial lifts, and other construction equipment.
  • Use gas detection equipment before entering manholes and remove water or debris as required.
  • Dismantle, relocate, and remove aerial, underground, and building cable systems and associated hardware.
  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and install or remove telecommunications hardware.
  • Respond to emergency restoration and outage situations requiring heavy construction work.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and all applicable governmental regulations while protecting customers and the public.
  • Complete daily production reports and As-Built documentation.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • DOT Medical Card
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • First Aid Certification
  • Flagger Certification
  • Competent Person Certification
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Silica Training
  • Confined Space Training
  • Pole Climbing & Ladder Safety Training
  • Forklift Certification
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of telecommunications line construction practices, procedures, tools, and materials.
  • Experience with aerial and underground telecommunications construction and maintenance.
  • Experience operating construction equipment and aerial lifts preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to identify wire and cable color differences.
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures and CPR.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to construction measurements and material installation.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights using poles, ladders, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to company values, safety, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in telecommunications construction and maintenance.
  • Experience with aerial and underground fiber or copper networks.
  • Additional telecommunications or utility industry certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb utility poles, ladders, machinery, and other elevated structures.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to load and unload tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate hand-eye movements and maintain visual focus.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel to remote work locations and operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
