PROJECT: Completion of Two (2) Ultra High-Spec 400-Class MPSVs for Hornbeck Offshore Services.
TMMG is looking for an experienced Marine Field Engineer to support the completion and delivery of two highly complex Multipurpose Support Vessels (MPSVs). These vessels were initially constructed in Louisiana and are now undergoing final mechanical, electrical, and systems outfitting at our Florida-based shipyards. While structural components are substantially complete, the remaining scope involves significant integration, testing, and commissioning of marine, propulsion, and auxiliary systems.The Field Engineer will serve as the technical liaison between Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Subcontractors, and the Owner’s representatives to ensure proper installation, system integrity, and readiness for testing and trials. This position requires a hands-on, on-site presence with a high level of technical competence, situational awareness, and coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee final installation and alignment of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, piping, and auxiliary systems onboard the vessels.
• Interpret engineering drawings, system schematics, and installation packages to ensure compliance with design intent, ABS class, USCG, and project requirements.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical problems during outfitting and commissioning.
• Provide technical guidance to production teams and subcontractors during installation and integration of complex shipboard systems.
• Track and verify completion of systems, punch lists, and change orders in coordination with Planning, Engineering, and QA/QC.
• Work closely with Testing & Trials personnel to support harbor tests, dock trials, and sea trials readiness and execution.
• Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Attend daily coordination and progress meetings with shipyard supervision, subcontractors, and Owner’s representatives.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline— OR —
• Minimum of 10 years of direct marine engineering field experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or offshore vessel integration.
• Extensive familiarity with offshore support vessel systems, including power generation, propulsion, thrusters, hydraulics, HVAC, fire main, ballast, fuel systems, and automation controls.
• Strong working knowledge of ABS, USCG, and IMO compliance standards.
• Demonstrated experience supporting vessel completion, commissioning, and delivery in a commercial or government shipyard setting.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documents, system diagrams, and vendor technical manuals.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and shipyard project management tools.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Must be willing and able to work on-site full time at Eastern’s Allanton and/or Port St. Joe facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience working on Hornbeck Offshore or similar class MPSVs, OSVs, or offshore construction vessels.
• Background in shipyard engineering support, production liaison, or field engineering in new vessel construction or major conversions.
• Working knowledge of Primavera P6, AutoCAD, or shipyard ERP systems.
Reporting Structure:
• Reports to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
• Works closely with Planning, Engineering, QA/QC, Production, and Testing departments.
